Course Number and Name: DMU111H1Computer Applications in Music

Course Description: Survey of digital music technology, covering engraving, MIDI, sound and digital audio, sequencing, synthesis, recording and sampling, signal processing, and mixing and mastering. Throughout this course will be an overview of the supporting hardware and software ecosystem, and an emphasis on listening and analyzing a diverse cross-section of electronic music. Coursework is practical, with a focus on creative and proficient use of a digital audio workstation, culminating in a final project.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 5-7pm in the Fall term

Months of contract: September to December 2026

Salary: $9,997.48

Qualifications: Graduate degree in music technology and digital media or related field. Extensive professional experience in music production, including MIDI, sequencing, synthesis, digital signal processing, and mixing and mastering. Expert knowledge of relevant current software and hardware, including familiarity with Logic Pro, Apple hardware, and third-party VST plugins. College/university teaching experience desirable.

Duties: Define course objectives; prepare course materials; provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations; teach classes as scheduled; administer and evaluate student assignments; prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy. Maintain reasonable hours of student consultation outside scheduled class hours.
