Job Description


The DME/Casting Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, development, and performance of the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Casting department. Reporting to the Director of Therapy, this role provides leadership in program development, staff management, inventory control, financial performance, and patient care delivery. The Manager ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, supports strategic initiatives, and maintains high standards of service, efficiency, and departmental growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for all DME/Casting department operations
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and certification requirements
  • Promote and maintain excellent patient care and customer service standards
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve departmental policies and procedures
  • Oversee staff training, education, performance management, and annual evaluations
  • Foster effective communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution among staff
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and overtime to ensure proper coverage
  • Lead department meetings and communicate updates, expectations, and performance metrics
  • Monitor and analyze financial and statistical data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare financial planning requests and support departmental budgeting efforts
  • Oversee billing processes, payer requirements, and reimbursement optimization
  • Collaborate with billing and operations teams to resolve financial and collection issues
  • Manage all aspects of inventory, including ordering, PAR levels, audits, and cost control
  • Ensure appropriate supply levels while maintaining budget compliance
  • Lead development and implementation of special programs and new product lines
  • Act as liaison between physicians, administration, and department staff
  • Address and resolve escalated patient concerns and complaints
  • Support product evaluation and recommend cost-effective, high-quality solutions
  • Maintain communication with leadership regarding departmental performance and needs
  • Promote continuous improvement in workflow, operations, and service delivery
  • Ensure staff are educated on payer requirements and billing compliance
  • Build collaborative relationships across departments (e.g., Finance, Billing, Therapy, Clinical Services)
  • Support certification standards and organizational compliance initiatives
  • Travel or provide support across locations as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a DME/Casting department
  • Experience in DME/Casting operations including clinical development, inventory management, billing, insurance coverage, and supply chain management
  • Experience with policy and procedure development, staff recruitment, and training
