Job Description

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an international, nonprofit conservation organization with two front doors: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We integrate wildlife health and care, science, and education to develop sustainable conservation solutions.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Divisional Sales Clerk is responsible for one or more areas of merchandise display, inventory level maintenance, orders, sales, warehouse supply and cash register operation at the Zoo or Safari Park. This position reports to the department Lead and Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Orders, stocks, displays, and sells merchandise items in a retail outlet
• Assists buyers and coordinators in reordering merchandise
• Deals with vendors intermittently
• Coordinates merchandise display and movement
• Participates in training sales clerks
• Fills mail orders
• Maintains sales areas and merchandise in a clean and orderly manner
• Maintains accurate and proper inventory
• Posts price change notices
• Operates a cash register
• Opens and closes register
• Provides information to the customers and handle complaints effectively

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with Leads, Clerks, Management teams, and cross-functional partners including Buying and Visual Merchandising. This role requires excellent multitasking and organizational abilities, with the capacity to prioritize competing responsibilities and maintain strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in an active setting that includes frequent movement between locations and varying weather conditions. Flexibility in scheduling is essential to support operational needs such as inventories, product transitions, and price changes. A team-oriented mindset, adaptability, and the ability to respond positively to changing priorities are key to success in this role.

• Position Type: Hourly Full-Time Non-Exempt Union Position - If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the union
• Hourly Rate: $24.92

The posted salary range represents the full compensation potential for this role over time. Initial hiring offers are typically made within the lower to mid portion of the range and are based on a combination of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and organizational considerations. Placement near the top of the range is generally reserved for individuals who demonstrate sustained performance, growth, and expanded responsibilities in the role over time.
