The Division Chief of Nephrology serves as the academic and administrative leader of a dynamic and growing division within the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Reporting to the Chair, the Chiefis responsible forthe strategic direction, operational performance, and national visibility of the division, with oversight of its clinical, research, and educational missions.
The Chief will establish and execute a strategic vision aligned with departmental, school, and health system priorities while advancing the Division's clinical growth, research enterprise, educational excellence, faculty development, and operational performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide visionary and innovative leadership to advance the Division of Nephrology in alignment with the strategic priorities of the Department of Medicine, Miller School of Medicine,UHealth, and affiliated hospital partners.
Lead the academic, clinical, research, fiscal, and operational management of the Division, ensuring excellence across all mission areas.
Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic goals for the Division that support growth, operational effectiveness, and national recognition in clinical care, education, and research.
Foster collaboration across the Department of Medicine,UHealth, affiliated hospitals, and external partners to strengthen interdisciplinary clinical, research, and educational initiatives.
Recruit,retain, mentor, and develop outstanding faculty, staff physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), while cultivating a supportive environment that promotes faculty development, career advancement, and succession planning.
Establish annual expectations and performance standards for faculty in the areas of clinical care, research, education, and citizenship, and ensuretimelyannual evaluations and professional development opportunities.
Develop innovative clinical growth strategies to enhance access to nephrology services, improve patient outcomes, and expand the Division’s reach across South Florida and affiliated care sites.
Provide oversight of clinical operations to ensure high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered care whilemaintainingcompliance with all institutional, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate closely with departmental and hospital leadership to develop and execute clinical programs that deliver outstanding outcomes, operational value, patient satisfaction, and quality performance metrics.
Advance the Division’s research mission by supporting the growth of translational, clinical, population health, and outcomes-based research initiatives, including faculty recruitment, mentorship, and sponsored funding development.
Ensure excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical education, including the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of educational and training programs within the Division.
Promote participation of Division faculty in teaching, mentorship, learner recruitment, and departmental educational committees while supporting continuing professional development and medical education activities.
Collaborate with Department administration to oversee the Division’s financial performance, including annual budget development, resource allocation, staffing, and effectiveutilizationof divisional space and operational resources.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies and standards related to credentialing, clinical documentation, HIPAA, external activities, effort reporting, ethical medical practices, and financial stewardship.
Lead and support quality improvement initiatives within the Division and affiliated hospitals to advance patient safety, clinical outcomes, operational excellence, and regulatory readiness.
Communicate effectively and regularly with Department leadership, hospital partners, faculty, and staffregardingstrategic priorities, divisional performance, operational goals, and organizational initiatives.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Distinguished academic nephrologist with a record of excellence in clinical care, scholarship, and academic advancement
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic medical center or similarly complex healthcare environment, with the ability to oversee and integrate clinical, research, and educational missions
Experience developing and scaling clinical programs, with attention to access, operational efficiency, quality outcomes, and patient-centered care
Establishedtrack recordin research, including program development, faculty mentorship, and success in securing or supporting extramural funding
Commitmentto medical education, with experience in teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship of students, residents, and fellows
Proven ability to recruit, develop, andretainhigh-performing faculty, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
Strong financial and operational management skills, including experience with budgeting, performance metrics, and aligning resources with strategic priorities
Collaborative and transparent leadership style, with the ability to build partnerships across departments, centers, and hospital systems
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
MD, DO, or equivalent required; board certification in Nephrologyrequired; eligible for medical licensure in the State of Florida
