Job Description

The Office of Equity & Inclusion seeks an equity-minded and collaborative individual to join our team as the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator in the Office of Equity & Inclusion (OEI) at Whittier College. The DEI Coordinator supports DEI program development conducted by the Office of Equity & Inclusion. This individual primarily oversees OEI student staff and hires and supervises the OEI Diversity Ambassadors and other student staff within OEI. The Coordinator is the main liaison between OEI and student clubs and organizations and serves as the primary advisor to the Student Diversity Council and Social Justice Coalition.In addition, the Coordinator will support the management and creation of events and programs geared toward faculty and staff to foster, create, develop, and sustain a nuanced understanding of diversity and inclusion on campus.

The Coordinator will be an active member of a team whose actions strengthen programs that lead to higher persistence and graduation rates including mentoring support programs that all students receive when they join the Whittier College community, particularly for students of color, students with a disability, first-generation college students, LGBTQ students, and students from a diversity of religious backgrounds. The DEI Coordinator will support the daily operations and programs of the OEI including updating budget entries and reporting and being a friendly and welcoming presence to those who visit the OEI.

The College is distinguished by its small size and innovative interdisciplinary programs. The campus is located on a 95-acre hillside campus 18 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree specialized in education-related and/or social justice-oriented topics (Gender/Latinx/Africana – African American/ APIDA studies; anthropology, sociology, psychology, or other majors.)

·A deep understanding of the higher education experience of students from historically marginalized identity groups.

·Some experience in coordinating and overseeing college/university community student events.
