Job Description

The Leidos Corporation is seeking a Diver that will be responsible for performing diving and dive related support including but not limited to scientific, O&M, inspection and other projects as needed for the Antarctic
Support Contract (ASC) in assistance with the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This position is for a deployment to McMurdo station from October to January.

*** Deployment to Antarctica is required in this role. Deployment length is expected to be for about 3 months, October 2026 to January 2027. The candidate in the position must complete the physical and dental examinations required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. ***


Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.


Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date. This process could take up to 4 months.

About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:

  • Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.

  • Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.

Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines. The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

The Challenge:

  • Responsible for conducting dives in support of ASC managed diving projects in Antarctica.

  • Prepares diving equipment and conducts dives in accordance with OSHA, ASC, and USAP approved diving regulations.

  • Performs underwater construction and maintenance tasks in accordance with above regulations. Tasking may include footing/piling placement, pipeline assembly, underwater welding, inspection and related O&M work.

  • Performs underwater salvage work when feasible and within the limits of the above regulations. Salvage work includes cleanup of debris as part of NSF approved environmental protection programs.

  • Performs underwater collections of scientific samples, video, photography, documenting of underwater conditions and observations for science projects.

  • Tends the dives of co-workers as required, and in accordance with ASC field procedures.

  • Advises the Supervisor, Dive Services on job progress, material requirements, and personnel matters.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

  • Performs other duties as required

What Sets You Apart:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required with a minimum of four years of commercial and/or scientific diving experience, including diversified skills in underwater construction/salvage or scientific diving work is required.

  • Must be familiar with all types of diving equipment and underwater construction tools, materials, and techniques.

  • Dry suit experience required including a minimum or 25 dry suit dives and 10 within 12 months of the date of hire.

  • Cold-water diving equipment maintenance skills required.

  • Required Certifications/Licensing and Training:

  • Nationally recognized SCUBA Certification and CPR/First Aid/DAN O2 certification is required.

  • AAUS or equivalent 100’ depth certification.

  • Commercial and/or scientific diving training required.

  • Rescue diver training required.

You May Also Have:

  • Experience in high latitude or polar waters preferred.

  • Experience with McMurdo or Palmer station diving operations preferred.

  • Visual tank inspection, SCUBA and Commercial diving equipment maintenance certification/experience preferred.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
