District-Wide Elementary Special Education Instructional Specialist

The position for District-Wide Elementary Special Education Instructional Specialist will be available in the East Central Independent School District for the 2026-2027 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. Primary Purpose: The function of this position is to provide professional learning and support to teachers and staff to assure the implementation of classroom instructional objectives, lessons, and strategies that are congruent with the needs of students with disabilities.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Work directly with teachers and paraprofessionals in the classroom providing support for inclusive practices and EC models by assisting staff with Specially Designed Instruction, progress monitoring, data analysis, interventions, and use of strategies for instructing students with disabilities.
2. Model researched based classroom and individual academic interventions, as well as high yield instructional strategies for students with various disabilities affecting academic achievement.
3. Attend and provide training and staff development on research-based interventions, inclusive practices, and instructional strategies.
4. Provide teachers ongoing, targeted classroom support through daily one-on-one and/or group interaction.
5. Collaborate regularly with the campus administration, campus special education staff, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Special Education, and other curriculum staff to plan/discuss implementation plans and identify appropriate resources and support for teachers.
6. Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional practices for students with disabilities through various activities such as staff meetings, professional development programs, individual discussions, coaching sessions, and demonstration lessons.
7. Assist and support teachers with planning and preparation, pacing, teacher collaboration, progress monitoring, data analysis, intervention placement, and strategies for instructing students.
8. Provide support and resources for classroom teachers to enable effective differentiation for students who struggle with content and those who require additional interventions.
9. Assist in the integration of technology at high levels in collaboration with Technology staff and other content specialists.
10. Work in collaboration with the campus administration staff and central office curriculum staff in order to build instructional capacity in the classroom and advance the learning of all students in the district.
11. Provide teachers ongoing, targeted classroom support through daily one-on-one and/or group interactions with teachers.
12. Assist teachers with the full and skillful implementation of mathematics standards utilizing research-based instructional practices and strategies in a focused effort to increase student achievement.
13. Consult with and assist individual teachers to interpret, articulate, and implement district curriculum.
14. Write district curriculum documents and assessments.
15. Collaborate regularly with the campus administration, Director of Curriculum, and Director of Special Education to plan and discuss implementation plans and identify appropriate resources and support for teachers.
16. Attend subject area supervisors meetings to network with Special Education Instructional specialists/supervisors in other districts.
17. Seek out and participate in professional development opportunities to expand personal knowledge of Specially Designed Instruction and pedagogy.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
Appropriate Texas Teacher Certificate
Outstanding record as a professional classroom teacher for at least three years
Superior presentation, writing, and organizational skills
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to hold others to high standards while also offering support and maintaining positive relationships
Ability to deliver positive, constructive, and honest feedback, both written and verbal
Experience with curriculum development and implementation
Outstanding knowledge of subject matter and broad knowledge of available resources
Comfort and confidence in working with children and adults
Creativity, energy, and commitment to excellence
Commitment to and passion for teaching students from diverse backgrounds

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds not to exceed 45 pounds). May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Work predominantly inside and exposure to noise; may work outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather, too. Frequent district-wide travel. Protracted and irregular hours of work. Normal office environment.

Period of Employment: 210 days basis
Salary: Based on the 2026-2027 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
