About this Position

The District Sign Specialist position is located in DOTD District 62 and perform and oversee basic sign installation, replacement, and maintenance of signs on all State and Federal highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). These specialists are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must perform their duties in all types of weather. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as required and attend continuing education classes as deemed necessary.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Installs, replaces, and maintains all permanent and temporary highway signs on state roads in compliance with MUTCD standards.
  • Interprets legal orders and regulations to determine precise placement of regulatory signs such as speed zones and weight limits.
  • Performs installation, replacement, and maintenance of pavement markings (stop bars, arrows, legends, markers) according to MUTCD guidelines.
  • Maintains records including electronic daily work reports, GPS sign locations, material usage, inventory, and performs sign cleaning and vegetation clearing.
  • Operates, maintains, and transports equipment such as sign trucks, small tools, and changeable/portable message boards.

Appointment Type: Probational

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a District Sign Specialist 1 or 2.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.

Compensation:

District Sign Specialist 1: $17.18/hr
District Sign Specialist 2: $19.67/hr
