• District Sign Technician I: A16 ($40,918.00 - $61,130.00/yearly)
• District Sign Technician II: A17 ($42,976.00 - $64,469.00/yearly)

District Sign Technician I:

Performs entry-level transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators
in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment
related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices
and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

District Sign Technician II:

Performs skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a
district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and
equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision
of details.

The essential duties for the District Sign Technician I include:

• Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency
situations/conditions.
• Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
• Issues signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; uses tools and equipment and moves signs and related
materials.
• Measures and calculates amount of materials needed.
• Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.
• Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
• Operates radios.
• Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
• Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.
• Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control
• Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Additional duties for the District Sign Technician II include:

• Orders supplies and materials from district shop.
• Orders signs from the regional sign shop.
• Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective
pavement markers (RPMs).
• Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

District Sign Technician I requires the following:

Education: None in formal education
Experience: NONE. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). No supervisory experience required. Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. No Substitution.

District Sign Technician II requires the following:

Education: None in formal education
Experience: 1 YEAR Sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). No supervisory experience required. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Must have a valid *Commercial Class "A" Driver License (CDL) at time of application with an N Endorsement, and with no restrictions - This position requires you to drive a state vehicle for TxDOT.

• Performing calculations to include material and labor estimates and expenses

The physical requirements and working conditions for the District Sign Technician I include:

• Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
• Subject to noise
• Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
• Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or another device
• Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
• Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc.
• Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling

• Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation
• Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
• Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
• Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
• Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
• Standing-prolonged periods of time
