Delivery Manager

To act as a TMC Manager for the San Antonio Express-News. This position leads a team of full-time and part-time employees who work with independent newspaper contractors to provide quality delivery service to non-subscribers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the timely and dry delivery of all products in an assigned geography.
  • Responsible for facilitating the delivery of all products when they are not managed by a delivery agreement.
  • Responsible for managing and scheduling the efforts and expenses of the Distribution Center staff.
  • Responsible for training and developing Distribution Center staff.
  • Manage route structure, carrier/agent profit analysis, delivery deadlines, and carrier retention to achieve company goals.
  • Maintain/Oversee subscriber files, routers, route lists, and all other routine reports, records and forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Contact customers with service related problems; resolve in a timely and permanent manner.
  • Verify the accuracy of information for the Distribution Center going to and coming from independent contractors, customer service, circulation sales, finance, delivery partners, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with independent contractor agreement; recommend corrective action for violations.
  • Communicate progress and problems to supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate and lead Distribution initiatives to achieve company goals and participate in project teams as needed.
  • Maintain a positive work environment for all employees and contractors.
  • Maintain facilities that are clean, safe, and secure. To promote and reinforce Human Resource policies regarding employment, harassment, training, etc. and to take appropriate action as needed to ensure facilities meet all regulatory standards (fire, building codes, OSHA, DOT, AAM, ADA).

  • Must be a Self-Starter.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule; ability to deliver papers while driving.
  • Must have and always maintain reliable transportation, valid Texas driver's license, and proof of auto liability insurance.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, constantly changing production environment.
  • Must have a High School Education.
  • Bi-Lingual preferred.

  • Delivery Manager will have an expense budget that needs to be met and managed.

Requirements

  • Three years of management experience in a fast paced, deadline-oriented customer service field preferred
  • Newspaper experience preferred
  • 4 year college degree preferred
  • High School education required
  • Computer skills, MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word required
  • Walking-Sitting-Climbing Stairs required
  • Lifting to 35 pounds, Pushing or pulling up to 65 pounds required
  • Forklift operations capability required
  • Repetitive finger movements, twisting or pressure involving wrists and hands required
