General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder in nuclear submarines, is seeking a Transportation Logistics Planner to join our Material Control team. Material Control maintains warehouse and buffer storage for all Submarine Programs.

The Transportation Logistics Planner will need to exercise problem recognition and resolution skills, provide support for all transportation activities between QP departments to include Major and Complex moves, and will be required to interface with various levels of management and shipyard personnel in order to ensure work completion. The Transportation Logistics Planner is also responsible for the QP Forklift safety program to include the Forklift Accident Prevention Team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;

  • Transportation dispatch for all material moves within Quonset Facility and Coordinate with Groton Transportation for moves between facilities
  • Must attend all major move meetings and coordinate assistance needed by rigging to support the trades
  • Responsible for monitoring the miles and hours of all trucks for tax reporting through Groton as well as registrations and renewals
  • Must possess experience and background knowledge pertaining to securing material in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Must possess a detailed understanding of loading and rigging practices for establishing proper loads working with cranes as well as large capacity forklifts
  • This position may require work to be performed outside at various times of the day and in any weather condition
  • Commitment towards safety and must be able to handle/lift heavy items within safety guidelines utilizing the Transportation resources available
  • Compliance with safety, quality, environmental, cost, schedule, and process improvement initiatives are mandatory
  • Consistent communication with 1st shift transportation team to ensure seamless transition of shifts
  • Interdepartmental communication via phone/email to ensure timely delivery of materials

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI location.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated transportation experience
  • Must possess a valid Class A driver’s license
  • Must obtain a Hazmat DOT certification within 3 months of being hired for a hazmat hauler
  • Must obtain hazmat shipper certification (DOT 49 CFR)
  • Must possess a valid DOT medical card
  • Must be able to work all shifts and in all types of weather conditions
  • Thorough understanding of DOT guidelines and requirements
  • Over the road hauling specifically flatbed experience
  • Must possess experience and knowledge of computer systems to include Microsoft Office suite as well as mobile computing (tablet) experience and demonstrate this knowledge at the time of interview
