Job Location: Main Campus - Marietta, GA 30060
Position Type: Part-Time StaffPURPOSE
Operate radio base station; NCIC/GCIC computer; CAD system; maintain records; answer phones; clerical work; shift work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Answers 911/Emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS) response and codes the same.
- Dispatch radio calls for Campus Assistance.
- Maintains radio and case number log book.
- Prepares and maintains some departmental correspondence; department statistics, weekly activities, lists, incidents reports.
- Accesses a variety of computer information systems and databases to retrieve, verify, and enter data.
- Testifies in court.
- Gives lifesaving and pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations for which he or she has been trained.

QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience
- A High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
- Two years of successful police, public safety or private company dispatcher experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Able to perform duties independently under general supervision.
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple calls, adhering to strict timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on conflict resolution.
- Above average written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with all levels.
- Well-developed analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Able to write reports and business correspondence.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications.
- Campus geography.
- Standard office equipment.
- Computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Recordkeeping principles.
- Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Typing/Data Entry/Transcription.
- Evaluating the urgency of calls and taking appropriate action.
- Handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to convey assertive but calm responses in emergency situations.
- Operating communications equipment.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Communications Officer Certification, or able to obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
- GCIC/NCIC Terminal Operator Certification.
- Current CPR Certification or must obtain recertification within 90 days from date of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of successful police or public safety dispatcher experience.
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certificate.
- Georgia P.O.S.T. Communications Officer Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business and radio equipment.
- Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collects, compiles, compares, and prepares work documents, set-up and maintain work files.
- Must be able to lift between 40 lbs individually and up to 60 lbs with assistance; retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves.
- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, extensive sitting, and grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position may require: 24 hour on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, or various hours (e.g. 10-hour, 12-hour) and rotating shifts.
- May be subjected to poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, intense noises, disruptive people, and excessive high levels of stress for extended periods due to the nature of emergency call center activity.
