Job Description

The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling and transmitting drivers and equipment for transportation of materials, freight, service, or emergency repairs while ensuring that all of his/her Environmental standards at multiple facilities. Duties may include using radio, telephone, or computer to transmit assignments and compile statistics and reports on work progress.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following are general responsibilities associated with the position as directed:

  • Executes customer service requests and routes other calls accordingly
  • Effectively handles all customer requests and complaints and reports them to the Transportation Manager
  • Follows up on outstanding issues with the customers, the Sales Team and the Transportation Manager
  • Answers all inbound calls
  • Processes all daily dispatch paperwork
  • Closes out daily dispatch
  • Maintains and files all driver logs and reports
  • Facilitates internal communication with the Manager and peers
  • Must demonstrate competency in all aspects of the job and company objectives
  • Demonstrates understanding of company policies, rules and trainings
  • Schedule and dispatch drivers to appropriate locations according to customer requests for pickup, car crushing specifications, or additional needs
  • Confer with drivers to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment
  • Relay information to or from the Logistics Manager and other Dispatchers
  • Organize the road testing requirements for newly hired drivers
  • Monitor driver electronic logs to ensure DOT compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience: The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job at a satisfactory level.

  • 3+ years of dispatching experience
  • Clear understanding of all company policy, FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of MS Office 365, and an ability to learn in-house systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 2 years of direct customer service
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and scrap industry preferred

· Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standards.

· Follow all safety guidelines and protocol, including wearing of all PPE.

· Adhere to all local, state, OSHA, and environmental regulations.

Decision Making: Common decisions made in the job and the level of review or autonomy needed to finalize such decisions.

· Walk and stand for long periods of time; walk and stand on uneven surfaces.

· Communicate by speech and hear audible warning signals.

· Visual acuity needed for constant observation, computer utilization and scrap inspection where required.

· Position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime.
