Job Description

Are you organized, compassionate, and able to think quickly in a fast-paced environment? Join our Crisis Services team as a Full-Time Dispatch Coordinator and play a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing behavioral health crises across Aroostook, Hancock, and Washington Counties.

As a Dispatch Coordinator, you'll serve as the communication hub for our crisis response system, ensuring that individuals in need are connected with the appropriate resources while supporting the safety and coordination of our Mobile Crisis Teams.

What You'll Do:

Coordinate Crisis Response

  • Answer calls, texts, and chats from the Maine Crisis Line and other crisis-related contacts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Dispatch Mobile Crisis Responders to individuals in need throughout the three-county service area.
  • Track crisis responders in real time to help ensure staff and client safety.
  • Maintain awareness of active crisis requests and coordinate service delivery.

Support Individuals and Families

  • Provide a welcoming, patient, and compassionate experience for callers.
  • Answer questions about crisis services and community resources.
  • Assist individuals, families, providers, and community partners in accessing appropriate services.
  • Support adherence to established crisis plans when applicable.

Administrative Support

  • Complete documentation and administrative tasks in accordance with agency policies.
  • Utilize electronic records, reporting systems, phone systems, and other technology platforms.
  • Maintain accurate service records and data collection.
  • Participate in team meetings, clinical reviews, and agency trainings.

Collaborate Across Systems

  • Work closely with Mobile Crisis Responders and other AMHC programs.
  • Support coordination of services for individuals awaiting or receiving crisis intervention.
  • Participate in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing opportunities provided through Crisis Services.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a professional office setting with varying workload intensity. Dispatch Coordinators work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly while maintaining a calm and supportive approach.

Schedule:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with flexible scheduling based on program needs.

Because Crisis Services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, candidates should be available to work:

  • Days
  • Evenings
  • Overnight shifts
  • Weekends
  • Holidays

Occasional overtime, on-call responsibilities, and schedule adjustments may be necessary to meet community needs.

Requirements

  • The contract for these positions requires that you are 18 years or older.
  • This position requires that you are able to be credentialed as an MHRT-CSP. There are 4 ways in which a person would be eligible for certification:

1. 36 months of direct behavioral health experience (4,992 hours)

2. MHRT/C certification and a minimum of 1,664 hours direct behavioral health experience

3. 30 Credits Hours and/or an associate's degree in a related field of study and a minimum of 1,664 hours of direct behavioral health experience

4. MHRT-CSP Certification

  • Upon hire, staff will be required to complete the MHRT-CSP training appropriate to their role and experience
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Required trainings include: CPR/First Aid Training, MANDT (Day 1), trained to administer and carry Naloxone and complete Peer Support 101 Training. Training is provided by the agency upon hire.
  • The ability to pass a background check and meet other licensing or regulatory requirements is required.

Aroostook Mental Health Services, Inc. (AMHC) was founded in 1964 as a non-profit community mental health center. The agency has been a provider of behavioral health (BH) and related services to adults and children in rural Maine for nearly 60 years.

Today the agency is the largest behavioral healthcare provider in the region with nearly 30 service locations across Aroostook, Washington and Hancock counties offering an array of mental health, substance use, crisis, sexual assault, prevention, and brain injury services (Aroostook).

AMHC serves nearly 5,500 individuals per year and employs 325 caring, compassionate staff members. AMHC is committed to an integrated, patient-centered approach in all services, characterized by a high degree of collaboration among community and health professionals and led by the client as the focal point of all services. No individual will be denied access to services due to an inability to pay. A discounted/sliding fee schedule is available based on family size and income.
