Job Description

Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel is seeking a Part-time Steward! This contract will end on January 3, 2027.

Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Steward is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen area and all dishes, pots and pans. The Steward is required to assist in the efficient operation and smooth operation of the kitchen and cafeteria.

The ideal candidate is an energetic professional with proven knowledge, skills and abilities, executing the following in support of the company’s vision, mission and values:

  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required to be displayed at all times
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area at all times
  • Maintain cleanliness of plates, dishes, cups, utensils, cutleries and all other related items
  • Maintain cleanliness of pots, pans and all other kitchen-related equipment
  • Empty garbage containers and cardboard bins are required
  • Sweep and mop dish areas as necessary
  • Remove grease
  • Assist cooks with kitchen duties and provide coverage to cafeteria attendants for breaks as required
  • Maintain highest level of personal hygiene and comply with all food safety policies in the Kitchen
  • Ensure proper level of chemicals used in and outside of kitchen equipment
  • Inspect work area daily and report any hazards and/or defective equipment to the Sous Chef/Manager immediately
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Report all injuries, accidents and unusual conditions to the Sous Chef immediately
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset but not required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Successful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of kitchen experience
  • Must be WHMIS certified
  • Show initiative and understanding of other roles and responsibilities in the kitchen
  • Ability to follow instructions in a friendly and professional manner
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and method of prevention
  • Ability to analyze current inventory and develop daily prep lists in order to control food waste and spoilage
  • Ability to prioritize and possess excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
  • The ability to successfully pass a criminal record check

Candidates must be ready and willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overnights. The hours of work will be based on operational needs. Ready to embark on your next adventure?
