Job Description

The Dishwasher (SCA) is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe kitchen environment by operating dishwashing equipment and cleaning food service items, kitchen utensils, cookware, and food preparation areas. This position supports efficient food service operations by ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards while providing quality service in accordance with contract requirements.

The Dishwasher manually or mechanically washes and rinses dishes, glasses and silverware; maintains proper temperature for sterilization and adds soap as needed, and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitize dishes, trays, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
  • Scrape, rinse, sort, and properly load dishwashing machines.
  • Inspect cleaned items to ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are met.
  • Return clean dishes, utensils, cookware, and equipment to designated storage areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, kitchen, storage rooms, and food preparation areas.
  • Clean and sanitize sinks, worktables, counters, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies, detergents, and sanitizing solutions as needed.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
  • Properly use and maintain cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with basic kitchen support duties, including receiving, stocking, and transporting supplies, as assigned.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, and safety hazards to supervision.
  • Maintain regular attendance and dependable work performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Leadership Responsibilities (if applicable):

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. The role provides technical expertise, consultation, coaching, and guidance to leaders and Human Resources on employee relations matters and may lead cross-functional projects or initiatives without formal supervisory authority.

Work Environment

Work is performed in commercial kitchens, cafeterias, dining facilities, or other food service environments. The position requires exposure to hot water, steam, cleaning chemicals, food waste, and slippery surfaces. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.

This position is classified under the Service Contract Act (SCA). Employees must comply with all applicable federal, state, local, contract, safety, sanitation, and company policies and procedures. Duties may vary based on contract requirements while remaining consistent with the applicable SCA labor classification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous dishwashing, custodial, or food service experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
