About the Role:

As a Dishwasher with Concordia College Dining Services, you’ll play an important role in keeping our dining operations running smoothly and safely. You’ll help ensure that dishes, utensils, cookware, and food preparation equipment are clean, sanitary, and ready when needed. This is a hands-on, team-oriented role that works closely with student employees and other Dining Services staff to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming dining experience for the Concordia community.

What You'll Do:

  1. Wash and sanitize dishes, silverware, cookware, and food preparation equipment, returning items promptly to serving and storage areas.
  2. Operate dish room equipment safely and correctly while following established food safety and sanitation procedures.
  3. Keep the dish room clean, organized, well-stocked, and ready for daily operations.
  4. Monitor cleaning and sanitation supplies and ensure needed supplies are readily available.
  5. Help provide direction and support to student, on-call, and temporary employees working in the dish room.
  6. Identify and report equipment problems or breakdowns to Dining Services management.
  7. Work collaboratively with student employees, coworkers, and managers to support excellent service for the Concordia community.

Qualifications:

What We're Looking For:

We’re looking for a dependable, team-oriented individual who takes pride in maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The ideal candidate can follow instructions, work safely with dish room equipment, and communicate effectively with coworkers and student employees. The ideal candidate will have the ability to complete required food safety training during the first three months of employment. Previous food service, dishwashing, or related experience is helpful but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must possess a ServSafe certificate or similar food safety course certificate or pass the ServSafe exam within the first three months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience in food service, custodial work, dishwashing, or a similar work environment.

Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Basic employment skills:reading, oral and written communication, operating dish room equipment (i.e. industrial dishwasher, three-compartment sink, food disposal);
  • Standard foodservice custodial skills (e.g.: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, etc.);
  • Requires basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation and current certification or ability to become certified with
  • ServSafe or similar program;
  • Ability to read and follow instructions for using dish room equipment and will ensure that student employees and other staff do the same;
  • Ability to monitor gauges for proper temperatures and monitor soap and sanitizer levels to ensure the health and safety of Dining Services customers;
  • Communication skills to give directions to student employees and work with other staff in the dish room to ensure that proper procedures are being followed;
  • Ability to engage our customers with an attitude of willingness and dedication to serve;
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
