The STI/HIV Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) supports communicable disease prevention by conducting surveillance, case investigation, and outreach related to HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This role focuses on preventing disease transmission through client education, confidential partner notification, testing support, and linkage to care. The ideal candidate is passionate about public health, skilled in communication, and able to build trust with diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct confidential interviews with individuals diagnosed with HIV/STIs to identify contacts and risk factors

  • Notify and locate partners to inform them of potential exposure and encourage testing

  • Provide education, counseling, and referrals for prevention, treatment, and care services

  • Assist with rapid testing (within scope) and support field-based outreach efforts

  • Participate in disease investigations, outbreak response, and control activities

  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and prepare reports on surveillance data and trends

  • Deliver community education through workshops and presentations

  • Collaborate with internal teams, healthcare providers, and community partners

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and public health regulations

  • Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and emergency response efforts as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, counseling, or a related field

  • Experience working with at-risk populations

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficient in medical record keeping and confidentiality procedures

  • Understanding of cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse populations

  • Experience in disease intervention and partner notification

  • If driving is required, must meet Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in sexual health education, counseling, or a related field

  • Certification in HIV testing and counseling

  • Spanish language proficiency

  • Phlebotomy certification or willingness to obtain within role scope
