National Parks and Wildlife Service has an exciting opportunity for a Discovery Ranger (Tour Guide) to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage in the Far South Coast.
About the role
Discovery Rangers develop and implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors across various locations to foster community awareness and appreciation for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage. This role will focus on practical experience in interpretive and educational guiding.
You will be required to work for one week at a time from the Baranguba Montague Island Nature Reserve up to 6 times per year. This is a remote location some 9 nautical miles from Narooma on the South Coast NSW. Temporary accommodation is supplied and the Discovery Guide will be required to supply their own bedding and meals. Transport will be provided to the island by NPWS.
Under the direction of the Discovery Coordinator this position will assist with development of education and leisure tours programs and be responsible for activity delivery.
The work is casual in nature and there is a higher concentration of work during holiday periods with occasional shifts outside of the holiday season.
About you
Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be developing and delivering programs to park visitors and school students and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations.
Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards.
