Job Description

About the role

We’re building a dedicated team in south-west Sydney to support a participant living with autism, behaviours of concern and high physical care needs in their own home.

Shifts are currently weekday mornings. Over the next few months, support will increase to 24/7 care. Once the full roster is in place, we’re looking to move casual staff into permanent positions.

The participant is also expected to move to Engadine in the coming months, and we’re hoping the team will move with them, so our preference is that staff will be able to work in Engadine as well.

Employment type:

Casual and permanent part-time (casual roles with a pathway to permanent)

What you’ll be doing

  • Personal care and hygiene support
  • Manual handling, including hoist use and transfers
  • PEG feeding and medication assistance, in line with the participant’s care plans
  • Following the participant’s Behaviour Support Plan using consistent, positive strategies
  • Supporting communication, daily routines and emotional regulation
  • Completing accurate shift notes and incident reports

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting people with autism and/or complex behaviours
  • Experience with personal care and manual handling
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Reliability, as consistency is very important for this participant

Highly regarded

  • PEG feeding experience
  • Hoist and manual handling experience
  • Medication assistance experience
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Weekday morning availability now, and afternoon and overnight availability as the roster grows

Don’t have PEG or hoist experience, but have strong personal care and behaviour support experience? We still encourage you to apply. Training is provided.

Essential requirements

  • Current First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working With Children Check
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
  • Smartphone and basic digital skills for shift notes and communication
  • Right to work in Australia

What we offer

  • Casual and permanent part-time positions, with casual staff to be offered permanent roles once the full roster is in place
  • A consistent team and regular roster
  • Paid onboarding and buddy shifts before working independently
  • Training in PEG feeding, manual handling and the participant’s Behaviour Support Plan
  • A responsive management team that answers the phone
  • Opportunities to grow into more senior roles
  • Pay rates based on the SCHADS Award (Level 2), with pay point determined by your qualifications and experience. Penalty rates apply for weekends, public holidays and overnight shifts.

Other work available

We also have shifts across Sydney, including Dulwich Hill and Ryde, supporting participants with psychosocial disability, mental health and complex behaviours. Let us know in your application if you’re open to other locations as well.
