Under the direction of the Manager, Disability Management Programs, the Disability Management Coordinator is responsible for providing disability case management services to the employees in the assigned portfolio. This includes facilitating the assessment of employee fitness for work, and the need to modify the occupational demands for workers experiencing a disability, while balancing the needs of the employee and the employer.

Experience

  • 5 years’ experience providing disability management services, in an employer-based program preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • University degree in a related field, such as Commerce, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or Athletic Therapy/Kinesiology required.
  • Training/certification in disability case management (or general case management) required.
  • CDMP or CRTW designation preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of employer-based disability management programs, policies, procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial legislation concerning employees with disabilities.
  • General knowledge of human resources principles, practices and legislation (i.e., Employment Standards, Labour Relations Act, Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
  • Demonstrated familiarity of medical terminology, assessment and treatment modalities, and early return to work principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workers compensation and third-party disability insurance plans.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain, assess and evaluate information to rationalize case management work and decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritize a heavy workload and competing work demands.
  • Ability to work under pressure with deadlines while providing superior customer service in sometimes confrontational situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective decision-making, problem-solving skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to facilitate the work of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Familiar with the use of personal computers and software in a Microsoft environment.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
