Job Description

About Us
UniSuper is a place where brilliant thinkers and passionate people come together. As one of Australia’s largest super funds, the work you’ll do with us makes a meaningful difference today and tomorrow for our members, the planet and for you.

The Service & Experience (S&E) business unit brings together all member facing teams, with the ambition to deliver a consistently high quality, end to end service experience. Our service proposition is central to the UniSuper purpose, providing great retirement outcomes through easy, seamless, personalised interactions every time.

The Opportunity:
As a Claims Assessor at UniSuper, you will play a meaningful role in supporting members during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. This is a hands‑on role where your judgement, empathy and clarity directly shape a member’s experience and outcomes.

You will take ownership of an end to end portfolio of disability claims, working closely with members, insurers and internal teams to ensure decisions are fair, thorough and aligned to policy and legislation. You will be trusted to handle complex matters with care, integrity and professionalism.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a portfolio of disability claims from lodgement through to determination and settlement
  • Assess both in built and externally insured claims, including reviews of declined insurer decisions
  • Engage directly with members through phone conversations and tele interviews, providing clear and empathetic support
  • Conduct medical and financial reviews to support balanced, evidence based decision making
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Member Services, Pensions and Advice, and external stakeholders including insurers and advisers
  • Proactively manage claims to meet quality standards, service expectations and claim duration targets

About you
You must hold extensive disability claims assessing experience and are someone who combines strong technical capability with a genuine commitment to supporting members. You are confident making sound decisions, comfortable navigating complexity, and thoughtful in the way you communicate with people during sensitive situations.

You enjoy accountability, take pride in your work, and bring a calm, structured approach even when managing competing priorities or challenging conversations.

You will bring:

  • Explicit experience assessing disability claims, ideally across Income Protection and Total and Permanent Disability
  • A solid understanding of claims assessment principles, including procedural fairness and evidence based decision making
  • Experience working with self insured and externally insured arrangements, with defined benefits experience well regarded
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain outcomes clearly to members and stakeholders
  • Confidence engaging with insurers, medical providers and internal teams to progress and resolve claims
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage your workload while maintaining quality and accuracy

What US offer
We believe that the best way to achieve great things is when we come together and collaborate. Therefore, we ask you to be able to commit to 60% of your time in office.

UniSuper’s high performance culture is supported by a range of benefits that demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our employees achieve their full potential, thrive, and grow their career with us. These include:

  • A personal development budget of $1500 to support employees in their professional growth

We believe that having a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, interests, abilities, and skills is crucial for delivering great retirement outcomes for our members. We invite you to apply for the roles that suit your career aspirations, even if you don’t meet all the requirements listed.
