About the Opportunity
The Director of Clinical Operations provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and administrative direction for assigned clinical departments. This role supports efficient daily operations, high-quality patient care, regulatory readiness, financial stewardship, and a positive experience for patients, families, providers, and staff.
As a member of the leadership team, the Director partners with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, department managers, and support services to advance hospital goals, strengthen clinical workflows, and promote a culture of accountability, compassion, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will provide leadership and operational oversight for assigned clinical departments and service lines. Responsibilities include supporting department managers, promoting teamwork and accountability, monitoring access, productivity, quality, and patient experience, and partnering with medical staff and clinical leaders to improve workflows and outcomes. The Director also supports regulatory readiness, budget management, staffing plans, resource utilization, service growth, and employee engagement.

QualificationsEducation and Experience
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field, along with at least five years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, preferably in a hospital setting. A Master’s degree, Critical Access Hospital experience, rural healthcare leadership experience, and experience leading operational improvement initiatives are preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
A current Michigan Registered Nurse license or other applicable healthcare professional license is preferred or may be required based on discipline. Healthcare leadership certification, Lean Six Sigma, or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality certification is also preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, coaching, communication, and change management skills, along with knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare regulations, budgeting, staffing, productivity, and performance improvement. Comfort with data analysis, healthcare information systems, and Microsoft Office are important for success in this role.
