Job Description

Company:

Qualcomm India Private Limited

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Hardware Engineering

General Summary:

We are seeking a strategic, technically credible, and people-centered leader to serve as Director within the Yield Architecture and Engineering organization in Bangalore. This leader will build a strong, self-reliant organization focused on Design for Yield, DFT partnership, silicon diagnostics, automation, and corrective and preventive action within those domains, under a clear local leadership and operating model.

The charter for this role is threefold. First, build and lead the Bangalore organization by attracting, retaining, developing, and inspiring exceptional engineering talent, while creating a healthy leadership bench and a durable succession pipeline. Second, establish the operating discipline, governance, and cross-functional partnerships required to deliver a focused Bangalore charter across Design for Yield, DFT, diagnostics, automation, and domain-specific CAPA. Third, grow Bangalore into a center of technical capability and innovation that can execute independently, partner globally, and contribute to the future of diagnostics, Design for Yield, automation, and AI-enabled engineering.

This role requires more than technical management. The successful candidate will be a strong organizational leader who creates clarity, builds trust, develops future leaders, and establishes accountability across a distributed and cross-functional environment. The Director will work closely with US technical leaders and partner organizations while taking direct responsibility for Bangalore team health, site capability, operating effectiveness, and delivery of the local charter.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. People-First Organization Leadership

Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Bangalore engineering organization with a people-first mindset. Create a culture of trust, inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence. Establish clear expectations, invest in career development, recognize strong performance, address organizational friction, and ensure engineers have the leadership, support, and opportunities needed to succeed.

2. Talent, Retention, and Leadership Development

Own the talent system for the Bangalore organization, including hiring, onboarding, retention, capability development, succession planning, and leadership bench strength. Develop technical leaders and future people leaders who can independently own teams, programs, and organizational responsibilities. Create a sustainable organization that does not depend on continuous remote leadership for routine decisions, team development, or operational direction.

3. Focused Bangalore Design-for-Yield and Diagnostics Charter

Establish and lead a focused Bangalore charter across Design for Yield, DFT partnership, silicon diagnostics, automation, and corrective and preventive action within those domains. Build an operating model that connects architecture, design, DFT, tapeout readiness, diagnostic readiness, diagnostic support for silicon bring-up, and continuous improvement. Ensure that responsibilities, interfaces, decision rights, and outcomes are clearly defined across the covered lifecycle.

4. Production-Quality Diagnostics Capability

Build and sustain reliable, scalable, production-quality scan and memory diagnostics capability across Qualcomm's product portfolio. Establish clear ownership for diagnostic readiness, execution, integration, quality, throughput, and continuous improvement. Balance immediate product commitments with the systematic improvements needed to strengthen diagnostic capability and prevent recurring execution gaps.

5. Technical Capability Building

Build durable technical depth across diagnostics execution, diagnostics methodology, memory diagnostics, Design for Yield, DFT collaboration, automation, and related engineering disciplines. Identify capability gaps, establish development plans, hire critical expertise, and create mechanisms for knowledge transfer and reuse. Reduce dependence on tribal knowledge by promoting documented methods, reusable workflows, and shared technical standards.

6. Design for Yield and Cross-Lifecycle Feedback

Strengthen collaboration with Bangalore Design, DFT, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Failure Analysis, and related engineering teams to move Design for Yield thinking earlier in the product lifecycle. Establish feedback and feedforward mechanisms that convert diagnostic and silicon findings into improved design practices, DFT readiness, diagnostic coverage, defect tolerance, manufacturability, and future product decisions.

7. Automation and AI-Enabled Transformation

Champion the thoughtful use of automation, analytics, and AI across Bangalore engineering workflows. Partner with Automation and AI technical leaders to reduce repetitive work, improve engineering productivity, accelerate design and diagnostic analysis, preserve organizational knowledge, and create scalable decision-support capabilities. Ensure that automation and AI initiatives are tied to measurable engineering needs and integrated into sustainable operating processes.

8. Operational Excellence and Governance

Establish disciplined operating mechanisms across the Bangalore organization, including project plans, technical roadmaps, workforce reviews, operations reviews, metrics, decision rights, escalation paths, and accountable owners. Create transparent visibility into commitments, risks, dependencies, staffing, and capability gaps. Promote proactive planning and continuous improvement rather than recurring firefighting.

9. Cross-Functional and Global Partnership

Build strong working relationships across Bangalore Design and DFT organizations and with global YAE, Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Failure Analysis, Automation, AI, manufacturing, and executive stakeholders. Clarify organizational interfaces, resolve cross-functional barriers, and drive shared outcomes in Design for Yield, DFT, diagnostics, automation, and related CAPA through technical credibility, clear communication, and collaborative problem solving.

10. Site Capability and Organizational Stewardship

Serve as a visible leadership presence for the Bangalore organization. Take responsibility for team health, organizational stability, employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and the long-term growth of the site's capability. Represent Bangalore needs and opportunities in global planning while ensuring alignment with broader YAE and PPS priorities.

11. Strategic Planning and Resource Management

Translate organizational priorities into a practical capability roadmap and staffing plan. Assess the required skills, current bench, critical gaps, and hiring sequence. Allocate resources according to business priority, technical risk, and team capacity while protecting mission-critical delivery and investing in long-term capability.

12. Innovation in Ambiguous Problem Spaces

Lead effectively where the technical path, ownership model, or organizational boundaries are not yet fully defined. Bring structure to complex problems, develop options and tradeoffs, establish accountable ownership, and guide teams toward scalable solutions that support Qualcomm's emerging technologies and future business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field and 8+ years of ASIC design, DFT, silicon diagnostics, product engineering, test engineering, Design for Yield, validation, integration, or related work experience.

OR

  • Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field and 7+ years of ASIC design, DFT, silicon diagnostics, product engineering, test engineering, Design for Yield, validation, integration, or related work experience.
