ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent in this position, through a strength-based approach, oversees the Y-NOW Mentoring Children of Prisoners program; including all program responsibilities for 30+ youth (whose parents are incarcerated or experiencing active addiction), program mentors and volunteers, family caregivers, and additional alumni youth in the Youth Leaders program. The Incumbent provides all supervision and support necessary to ensure that youth, mentors, caregivers, and youth leaders in the Y-NOW program are making progress on their commitments (goals, participation, relationship with mentor, etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
• Demonstrates a commitment to the charitable work of the YMCA and accepts a leadership role in the activities and events of the YMCA Annual Campaign.
• Champions the program’s mission and core values and challenges young people to accept and demonstrate core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
• Supervises 1 full-time staff (Program Coordinator), but more as program growth requires
• Co-facilitates volunteer, parent, and youth group sessions and activities, as requested by program director. Prepares materials, as requested.
• Incorporates a multidisciplinary team approach to best meet the needs of youth. Conducts school and home visits regularly. Meets with youth and volunteer mentors, as needed.
• Attends and facilitates meetings for/with youth scheduled at school, court, home, or YMCA Safe Place Services.
• Manages and collaborates with a host of community partners and JCPS school administrators for referrals, advocacy and follow-up needs.
• Develops all Y-NOW curriculum for each of the 10 month mentoring classes with input from participants, mentors, and staff
• Maintains records and statistical information essential for evaluating progress of youth and volunteer participants, and reporting to funders.
• Recruits and trains all mentors to the program. trains, supports/fosters strong program/mentor and mentor/mentee relationships and communications.
• Co-facilitates with the case manager all volunteer, parent/youth group sessions and activities.
• Incorporates a multidisciplinary team approach to best meet the needs of youth, including co-facilitating school and home visits as needed; and care-giver/mentor meetings as needed.
• Oversees all ongoing program development
• Develops and implements policies, procedures, and curriculum necessary to achieve the programmatic goals and objectives.
• Utilizes Youth at-risk methodology and models a person of integrity.
• Manages emergency situations on a 24-hour on call basis with volunteers.
• Maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality and professional boundaries.

QualificationsKNOW HOW/REQUIREMENTS

• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• High awareness of community resources and referring agencies.
• Availability to work some nights and weekends. Ability to be out of town for several days at a time for the camp/retreat and/or youth trip.
• Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of management experience in a social service capacity
• Minimum of 4 years experience in case managing volunteers/mentors, and/or working with high-risk youth, age 11-20;
• Extensive knowledge of Children of Prisoners or youth who have experienced trauma preferred.
• Familiarity with the philosophies of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development
• Strong multi-tasking, organization and time management skills.
• Strong computer skills (Outlook; Microsoft Office) and knowledge of web based applications.
• Valid Kentucky/Indiana driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Ability to drive a YMCA Van.
• Ability to work activities both inside and outside (regardless of the weather).
