The Head of Tax – Corporate Functions will lead and manage all tax matters for the KGS entities, covering Direct Tax (Income Tax, TDS, Transfer Pricing), Indirect Tax (GST, Service Tax legacy matters, SEZ), Overseas tax, PE matters and FEMA compliance.
The role also oversees tax planning, filings, audits, assessments, litigation management, and coordination with external consultants, advisers, and regulatory authorities.
The Head of Tax will lead a team of tax professionals, drive functional excellence, and collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Operations, and Business Leadership.
Key Responsibilities
A. Direct Tax (Corporate Tax, TDS & Transfer Pricing):
•
Lead compliance for all Income Tax, TDS, and Transfer Pricing requirements.
•
Oversee tax returns, computations, advance tax workings, and statutory filings.
•
Manage TP documentation, local files/master files, and support audits/assessments.
•
Evaluate and advise management on tax positions, transactions, cross-charge mechanisms and optimization opportunities including tax-efficient business structures.
B. Indirect Tax (GST, Service Tax, SEZ/STPI)
•
Manage end-to-end GST compliance (registrations, returns, e-invoicing, reconciliations and audits).
•
Oversee GST and Service Tax refunds, assessment and litigations.
•
Ensure complete SEZ, STPI/EOU compliance including filings, documentation, approvals and liaison with relevant authorities.Overseas Tax Compliance
•
Ensure compliance with overseas tax regulations applicable to the company’s operations, including withholding obligations, foreign tax registrations and annual/periodic filings.
•
Manage Permanent Establishment (PE) assessment, risk evaluation and documentation for overseas activities.
•
Coordinate with international tax advisors to monitor PE triggers, employee presence, remote work implications and operational footprints in various jurisdictions.
•
Drive timely foreign jurisdiction filings, such as corporate tax returns, VAT/GST equivalents, local tax registrations, non-resident reporting, and any country-specific disclosures.
•
Lead global tax risk assessments, tax equalization matters (if applicable), and foreign tax credit optimization.
•
Provide proactive guidance on foreign exchange regulations for business transactions and new initiatives
D. Tax Litigation & Representation
•
Represent the KGS entities before tax authorities (AO, TPO, CIT(A), DGFT, RBI, GST authorities), as needed.
•
Strategize and manage litigation at all levels including appellate tribunals and high courts in collaboration with legal counsel.
•
Prepare submissions, responses to notices, audit queries, and defense strategies in collaboration with Tax advisors
E. Tax Planning & Stakeholder Engagement
•
Advise CFO, Operating Committee on emerging tax risks, regulatory changes, and strategic tax planning.
•
Present regular tax updates, risks and impacts to senior leadership on open matters
•
Partner with business units to evaluate tax implications of new product offerings, and organizational restructurings.
F. Team Leadership & Governance
•
Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, creating a high-performance environment.
•
Establish tax governance frameworks, internal controls, SOPs, and risk management mechanisms.
•
Oversee automation and process improvements in tax reporting and compliance.
G. Audit Coordination
•
Manage statutory audit, internal audit, and group audit requirements pertaining to tax.
•
Work closely with other external advisors to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with global standards.

15–20+ years of post-qualification experience in Corporate taxation with multi-jurisdiction exposure; ex–Big 4 or top-tier advisory background preferred.
•
Proven leadership of group tax in listed or large multinational environments.
•
Proven track record in handling audits, assessments, litigation, and regulatory representation
