Job Description

About the Team

At Uber, we’re building a future where autonomous vehicles and human drivers seamlessly work together to make transportation more reliable, affordable, sustainable, and safer. Our vision is one of a hybrid future, with AVs operating alongside drivers and couriers, each bringing their unique capabilities to the table. As the largest on-demand mobility and delivery platform in the world, with our deep expertise in marketplace management, fleet utilization, and local operations — Uber is uniquely positioned to help AV companies deploy and scale their technology globally.

About the Role

Director, Strategy and Planning for our Autonomous business unit will lead a team of deeply analytical and strategic problem solvers to address key strategic priorities in relation to our Autonomous strategy. The right candidate will act as thought partner to the Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery, Autonomous Mobility & Delivery operations teams, Autonomous Mobility & Delivery business development teams, Investor Relations, and other key cross-functional partners across Product/Engineering, Policy, and Finance. We’re looking for someone who can understand problems from 30,000 feet as well as dive deep into the details. This role will work across multiple functions and teams in support of driving stronger business results for our Autonomous business. Some degree of technical depth on AV development, Uber’s marketplaces and/or experience working with our Tech teams would be beneficial (though not required to apply).

What You’ll Do

  • Vision: Work closely with the Autonomous leadership team, and other cross-functional senior leaders, to develop and iterate on our overall AV strategy.
  • Strategic Thought Leadership: play a key role in defining and making decisions about the strategic direction of AV as a key Uber priority. You will be expected to leverage technical depth on AV development and AV operations to evolve and articulate a compelling competitive strategy, defining the unique value we bring across the ecosystem, and help to communicate the strategy internally and externally.
  • Drive Informed Decision Making: Develop a deep understanding of how decisions are made and AV strategy is evolving, and leverage that know-how to ensure we make high-quality, data-driven decisions about the future of our Autonomous business.
  • Reporting and Governance: Take ownership of core Business-As-Usual reporting and governance rhythms, establishing structured frameworks to monitor and report on key performance metrics, and support planning cycles.
  • Lead by Example: Be truth-seeking with data, set a high bar for the team on analytical rigor
  • Act like an Owner: Use your role to help maximize value creation for Autonomous at Uber overall

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of investment banking, consulting, business intelligence, strategy, entrepreneurial, or other related operating experience
  • Exceptional communicator who can synthesize a lot of information quickly, highlight the key takeaways, and disseminate actionable insights
  • Experienced in balancing attention to detail with swift execution — consistently doing things both quickly and at a high-quality level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with AV development or strategic planning in the context of AV development
  • Experience in high-growth operations or startup experience is strongly preferred
  • Exceptional communicator who can synthesize a lot of information quickly, highlight the key takeaways, and disseminate actionable insights
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a logical and structured approach to project prioritization and related communications
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, who can flex from big-picture strategic vision to pragmatic execution-oriented approach leveraging data to establish points of view

About Uber

We are Uber. The go-getters. The kind of people who are relentless about our mission to help people go anywhere and get anything and earn their way. Movement is what we power. It’s our lifeblood. It runs through our veins. It’s what gets us out of bed each morning. It pushes us to constantly reimagine how we can move better. For you. For all the places you want to go. For all the things you want to get. For all the ways you want to earn. Across the entire world. In real time. At the incredible speed of now.

The idea for Uber was born on a snowy night in Paris in 2008, and ever since then our DNA of reimagination and reinvention carries on. We’ve grown into a global platform powering flexible earnings and the movement of people and things in ever expanding ways. We’ve gone from connecting rides on 4 wheels to 2 wheels to 18-wheel freight deliveries. From takeout meals to daily essentials to prescription drugs to just about anything you need at any time and earning your way. From drivers with background checks to real-time verification, safety is a top priority every single day. At Uber, the pursuit of reimagination is never finished, never stops, and is always just beginning.
