Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Software Engineering to lead engineering for the Unify Energy platform. This role will provide technical, organizational, and delivery leadership for software and data capabilities serving the oil and gas industry. The Director will align engineering execution with customer and business priorities while advancing a secure, scalable platform that helps energy organizations manage high-value information, streamline operational workflows, and improve access to trusted data across the asset lifecycle.

The Director will partner closely with Product Management, business leadership, Architecture, Information Security, DevOps, Data Engineering, Quality Engineering, Implementation, Customer Success, and other software teams. This leader will translate industry needs into an executable engineering strategy, coordinate cross-team dependencies, and ensure that product investments produce measurable customer, operational, and financial outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on strategic leader with deep experience delivering complex SaaS and cloud-native platforms, leading distributed engineering teams, and building data-intensive solutions for regulated or asset-intensive industries. Oil and gas domain experience is strongly preferred, including familiarity with upstream, midstream, or downstream workflows; land, lease, well, facility, and asset records; regulatory information; document and data onboarding; and integration with industry and enterprise systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams responsible for the Unify Energy platform and related software, data, integration, and automation capabilities.
  • Own the engineering strategy, technical roadmap, execution plan, and delivery outcomes for Unify Energy in alignment with product strategy, customer commitments, revenue goals, and long-term platform direction.
  • Build strong working partnerships with oil and gas business leaders, customers, Product Management, Implementation, and Customer Success to understand industry workflows, prioritize the highest-value problems, and convert business outcomes into clear engineering plans.
  • Provide technical leadership across SaaS software engineering, cloud-native architecture, APIs and integrations, data pipelines, search and document services, analytics, workflow automation, and applied AI.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and architecture through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable capabilities that support energy information ingestion, normalization, indexing, classification, validation, search, retrieval, workflow, and reporting.
  • Advance platform capabilities that enable Access to serve as a trusted steward of customers’ physical and digital information assets by supporting metadata management, intuitive search, filtering, navigation, and map-based discovery within the SaaS platform. Lead the data engineering capabilities required to ingest, organize, and enrich customer data so it becomes more accessible, useful, and valuable across oil and gas workflows.
  • Guide integration strategy for industry and enterprise systems, including data exchanges, APIs, batch interfaces, identity services, content repositories, GIS or spatial data, analytics platforms, and customer-specific systems of record.
  • Lead data engineering and data quality practices for high-volume structured and unstructured information, including ETL/ELT, metadata management, lineage, reconciliation, observability, and reliable downstream consumption.
  • Guide responsible use of AI and machine learning to improve document understanding, metadata extraction, classification, entity matching, search relevance, workflow recommendations, quality assurance, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure solutions are designed with appropriate attention to cybersecurity, privacy, records retention, legal hold, auditability, data residency, regulatory obligations, customer controls, and business continuity.
  • Establish outcome-based planning and measurement. Define engineering and business KPIs for major initiatives, including delivery predictability, quality, reliability, adoption, customer value, operational efficiency, and revenue or retention impact.
  • Partner with Architecture, Information Security, DevOps, Quality Engineering, Data Engineering, and Operations to establish technical standards, reusable patterns, release controls, service-level objectives, and operational readiness.
  • Monitor portfolio health, delivery metrics, product quality, reliability, risks, dependencies, capacity, and technical debt; make clear tradeoffs and proactively resolve or escalate issues that threaten business outcomes.
  • Continuously improve platform architecture, technical health, and integration patterns while protecting customer continuity and sequencing change based on value, risk, and delivery readiness.
  • Support talent planning through hiring, coaching, performance management, succession planning, role clarity, and the creation of an accountable, inclusive, and customer-focused engineering culture.
  • Represent Unify Energy engineering in executive, product, customer, and governance forums, providing clear updates on strategy, delivery performance, investment needs, risks, opportunities, and decisions required.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in energy technology, information management, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, data platforms, AI-enabled automation, SaaS architecture, and software delivery practices.

First 6-12 Months

The initial focus will be to establish a clear engineering and product delivery baseline for Unify Energy, strengthen alignment between customer needs and the technical roadmap, and improve execution predictability. The Director will assess the platform architecture, team capabilities, operating model, delivery commitments, reliability, security posture, technical debt, and customer integration landscape. They will work closely with Product, Operations, and customer-facing teams to confirm the highest-priority business and product outcomes and translate them into a focused, sequenced delivery plan.

Success will be demonstrated through clearer accountability, stronger engineering and product operating rhythms, improved delivery and quality metrics, reduced execution risk, deeper customer partnership, and measurable progress on the highest-value Unify Energy capabilities.
