The Mastercard Transaction Services (MTS) Compliance Platform Engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and operating shared compliance capabilities for Mastercard’s regulated payment flows. We build reusable services and integration patterns that standardize controls, improve operability and reduce duplicated integrations across products.
We are looking for a technically strong engineering leader with deep experience in platform architecture, distributed systems, APIs, event-driven systems, and control automation, who can build scalable, resilient, and auditable compliance capabilities for regulated payment flows.
Role
As a Director of Software Engineering, you will:
Drive business outcomes with the right technology solutions
• Lead the platform strategy, architecture & design for shared compliance capabilities, ensuring scalable, reusable solutions that enable business growth and regulatory adherence.
• Drive cross-functional delivery execution to achieve business outcomes. Establish plans, manage dependencies and risks, and ensure release readiness for production adoption across consuming teams.
• Track delivery progress through clear milestones, metrics, and stakeholder updates to ensure commitments are met.
• Plan and optimize team capacity and resourcing allocation, balancing investment trade-offs to ensure focus on highest-value roadmap priorities.
• Partner with product, compliance and other engineering teams to shape requirements, define scope, and drive reuse across products and payment flows.
• Apply payments compliance domain knowledge - including AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and control testing concepts - to guide platform design and translate regulatory needs into scalable engineering solutions.
Drive a culture of engineering excellence
• Drive engineering excellence across the SDLC, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery with strong focus on reliability, scalability, and time-to-market, underpinned by observability, resilience, and effective incident response.
• Ensure all solutions meet enterprise standards for security, resilience, scalability, maintainability, and auditability, with clear accountability for service ownership and lifecycle management.
• Establish and track engineering KPIs (e.g., availability, latency, deployment frequency, MTTR), using data to drive continuous improvement and operational maturity.
• Evaluate, adopt, and scale new technologies (including AI) through targeted proofs of concept to strengthen controls, enhance compliance outcomes, and accelerate business delivery.
• Foster strong cross-functional engineering alignment, driving reuse of platforms, consistency of standards, and effective collaboration across engineering, product, risk, and operations teams.
• Embed a culture of continuous improvement and learning, leveraging retrospectives, automation, and feedback loops to systematically improve quality, resilience, and efficiency.
All About You
• Experience building and operating highly scalable, secure, and resilient platforms.
• Strong background in software development, ideally using Java and related software development frameworks.
• Strong understanding of modern delivery practices, including Agile, DevOps and SRE.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Hands-on technical leader who consistently demonstrates leadership, builds trust, inspires teams and is comfortable moving between strategy and technical depth.
• Proven people leader who develops talent, manages performance, and builds inclusive, high-performing teams with a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
