Director, Software Delivery

We are looking for a Director, Software Delivery to lead this capability within our Digital business. Reporting to the Director, Digital, this is a senior leadership role with full accountability for the performance, growth and delivery of a national software consulting practice.

This role is based on the East Coast of Australia, with flexible working arrangements available.

The opportunity

As Director, Software Delivery, you will lead a team of around 40 people across Software Engineering, Business Analysis, Project Management, Testing, UX/UI and Platform Engineering. You will own the P&L for the practice, set its strategy and budget, and run it as a software consulting business that wins, scopes, builds and supports software solutions for clients across WSP and the wider market.

You will spend a meaningful share of your time in front of clients and shaping work, while keeping the practice running well day to day: project health, utilisation, quality, hiring, and the development of your leadership team. The role works closely with the Director of Operations, the Director of Product, Clients and Growth, and the leaders of Digital Services and the broader Advisory group.

In this role you will:

• Help set the strategy, annual budget and direction for the Software Delivery business, aligned to WSP Digital and Advisory priorities.

• Own the software lifecycle from work winning through discovery, delivery, support, maintenance and enhancement.

• Lead from the front by working alongside the team on delivery, taking ownership of outcomes rather than delegating from a distance

• Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders and team members, bringing people with you and setting direction, while remaining hands-on in solving problems and driving results

• Lead pipeline development and pursuits. Shape client problems into commercially viable engagements and contribute directly to winning bids.

• Build senior client relationships and act as a trusted advisor on software delivery and digital transformation.

• Manage the practice through your senior leads (Software Engineering, BA, PM, Platform Engineering). Develop them, plan for succession, and keep the leadership tier strong.

• Keep the practice running: project health, utilisation, forecast accuracy, hiring, quality governance and active assurance.

• Define and embed the “WSP Way” for software delivery, including methodology, governance and quality standards.

• Own the commercials: revenue, margin, utilisation and forecasting against budget.

• Champion collaboration across Digital, the broader Advisory group and other WSP business groups to bring combined offerings to clients.

About you

You are an experienced and commercially-minded leader who has built or scaled software delivery practices in a consulting, professional services or digital agency environment. You balance growth and client-facing work with the discipline of running a team well day to day, and you can move between executive conversations and the realities of project delivery without losing either thread.

You will bring:

• Extensive experience leading software delivery in a consulting, professional services or digital environment.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across Software Engineering, BA, Project Management and Platform Engineering functions.

• Commercial acumen, including P&L ownership and accountability for performance against budget.

• A track record of winning and growing client work through pre-sales, proposals and account development.

• Experience delivering enterprise-scale software solutions in modern delivery environments (Agile, DevOps, cloud).

• Executive communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• A genuine interest in developing people, mentoring leaders and building teams where everyone belongs.
