As the Facility HR Director, you will lead all aspects of Human Resources at the site level, including labor relations, compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, training and development, safety, compliance, and employee relations. You’ll guide and develop the HR team while executing people strategies that drive performance, retention, and operational success.

Strategic HR Partnership - Partner with site leadership to shape people strategies that support business goalsIdentify workforce challenges, provide insights, and recommend practical HR solutionsSet clear HR objectives aligned with organizational and “One Smithfield” priorities
HR Leadership & Team Development - Lead, coach, and develop the facility HR team to deliver consistent, high‑impact resultsAssign work, review performance, provide feedback, and support ongoing developmentMentor leaders and HR staff to ensure consistent application of policies and practices
Talent, Training & Retention - Oversee recruiting, onboarding, training, and development across the facilityIdentify training and capability needs across production, distribution, administrative, and leadership teamsDrive retention strategies to maintain a stable, engaged workforce
Employee & Labor Relations - Build and sustain positive employee and union relationshipsLead labor relations, including contract strategy, interpretation, negotiations, and complianceProactively resolve employee and labor relations issues while mitigating legal and compliance riskCounsel managers and employees on policies, performance, and workplace concerns
Compliance, Risk & Governance - Ensure compliance with all applicable labor and employment laws (DOL, FLSA, OFCCP, EEO, OSHA)Oversee policy and contract interpretation to ensure fair, consistent applicationManage and execute the facility Affirmative Action Plan across all employment stages
HR Operations & Programs - Implement and align corporate HR policies, programs, and procedures at the facility levelManage employee benefits administration, enrollments, and inquiriesAnalyze workforce data and prepare reports to support goals, decision‑making, and communications

WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Human Resources, Business or related field, and 10+ years of experience in HR; required.
5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required.
Knowledge of labor/employment law, contract negotiations experience and grievance resolution experience required.
Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking and planning, problem solving, decision making and complex project management.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization and to professionally present information to top management.
Strong reasoning, math, and analytical skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software (word, excel, power point and outlook) and ability to navigate and research the Internet, SAP/HCM, and Payroll database software.
Possess specialized knowledge of HR systems, processes and procedures.
Bi-lingual skills preferred: Speak, read, write, address groups, individuals, conduct investigations, counseling, training, mentoring, using language other than English (as applicable to the business unit).

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:
MBA is preferred.
PHR or SPHR certification is desirable.
Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Human Resources staff at the plant.
Carries out managerial/supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
