Job Description

Pfizer is seeking a Director, Scientific Data Platforms to lead the strategy, delivery, and evolution of two of the most critical platforms in our research data ecosystem: D360 and the Research Information Factory (RIF).

These platforms sit at the center of scientific data flow across discovery and preclinical research and house data used across the division and enterprise to refer to key Pfizer molecular entities. Together, they enable the ingestion, curation, publication, access, and analysis of chemistry, biology, assay, and molecular entity data that scientists rely on every day to drive project decisions, support hit identification, guide design iteration, and accelerate research programs.

This role is not simply about sustaining two platforms in isolation. It is about leading an interconnected scientific data capability that works in close partnership with adjacent platforms across the Molecules & Assays Solutions portfolio, including PUMA, Signals, Genedata Biologics, and Research Services, to ensure data moves seamlessly from generation to trusted enterprise use. The successful candidate will combine technical depth in data platforms and engineering with strong product thinking, operational leadership, and the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment spanning scientific users, product teams, engineering teams, data operations, enterprise architecture, and external delivery partners.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who wants to shape the future of AI-ready, high-quality scientific data at enterprise scale.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Platform Strategy and Leadership

  • Lead the roadmap, sustainment, and modernization strategy for D360 and RIF
  • Ensure these platforms continue to meet critical business needs across discovery and preclinical research – this includes interaction with business leads from all Research Units and Partner Lines
  • Balance platform reliability, technical debt reduction, user experience, scalability, and cost stewardship
  • Align platform evolution with broader portfolio and enterprise data strategies

Scientific Data Platform Delivery

  • Lead a cross-functional team responsible for platform delivery, support, data operations, and engineering coordination
  • Ensure reliable ingestion, curation, publication, and access to scientific data across the D360/RIF ecosystem
  • Drive improvements in platform stability, operational transparency, issue resolution, and change management
  • Oversee delivery across internal teams and external partners supporting sustainment and transformation work

Cross-Platform Integration

  • Partner across the Molecules & Assays Solutions portfolio along with key business stakeholder across Research Units and Partner Lines to ensure D360 and RIF are effectively integrated with adjacent capabilities, including:
    • PUMA for molecular registration and entity data
    • Signals for experiment capture and workflow support
    • Genedata Biologics and related scientific platforms
    • Research Services and APIs for downstream access and reuse
  • Help define and improve end-to-end data flow across the scientific platform ecosystem
  • Ensure platform decisions are made with clear understanding of upstream and downstream dependencies

Data Quality, Governance, and Modernization

  • Drive accountability for data quality, lineage, usability, and trust across scientific data flows
  • Improve visibility into data pipelines, publication workflows, and troubleshooting processes
  • Support modernization of legacy workflows and movement toward more scalable, cloud-enabled, and AI-ready data patterns
  • Partner with architecture, platform, and engineering teams to improve long-term technical sustainability

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Work closely with scientific users, product leaders, business analysts, and technical teams to prioritize the highest-value improvements
  • Translate complex scientific and operational needs into clear platform priorities and delivery plans
  • Serve as a key connector between research workflows and technical implementation teams

Data Integration and Accessibility

  • Provide strategic guidance on integration of compound and assay data from new acquisitions and collaborations
  • Provide cross-domain thought leadership on ontology strategy and semantic layer development for biological and chemical data

  • Familiarity with scientific platform ecosystems such as:
    • ELN / experiment capture systems
    • Molecule registration systems
    • Assay data publication workflows
    • Scientific data access / search / analysis platforms
  • Experience with cloud data and engineering platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Experience with relational and analytical data architectures, including schema design, warehouses, marts, and downstream consumption models
  • Knowledge of data governance, stewardship, lineage, and reference data management in enterprise settings
  • Experience with modern software and platform delivery practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and observability
  • Familiarity with data APIs, service-oriented integration, and platform interoperability
  • Experience working with high-volume, high-complexity data domains where both structured and semi-structured data are important
  • Exposure to AI/ML enablement, data product thinking, or building data foundations that support advanced analytics and AI use cases
