Job Description
Our client is an established and well-known brand specializing in high-quality, responsibly sourced and manufactured athletic apparel that functions as both gym and streetwear. They have a thriving e-commerce business as well as popular brick-and-mortar retail stores. With a rapidly expanding global retail footprint of 200+ stores and ambitious international growth plans, the company is scaling its leadership infrastructure to match its trajectory. They are seeking a Director of Retail Operating Model & Technology to serve as the connective tissue between people, process, and technology across their store fleet. This is a newly created, high-visibility role responsible for designing and maintaining the operational routines that power day-to-day store execution—while driving the technology and process improvements that make that execution scalable, measurable, and repeatable across markets. It is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned retail operations leader with deep technology fluency who is energized by building systems that work at global scale.
This is an in-person role, reporting to our client’s headquarters in Los Angeles 5 days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain effective daily and weekly operational routines for retail stores, accounting for variables including store volume, location, physical footprint, and staffing models
- Partner with the Workforce Management team to ensure store operating routines are tightly aligned with labor models and scheduling tools; adapt labor approaches to support execution during peak periods
- Assess the portability of North America operating models to international markets, partnering with regional teams to conduct gap analyses and determine what adaptations are required for new countries and store formats
- Own the retail technology and process improvement roadmap, driving alignment across store operations, leadership, and cross-functional partners including technology, engineering, digital, and regional teams
- Identify, capture, and prioritize process and technology improvement opportunities through field immersion, store visits, operational KPI review, and ongoing feedback loops with frontline and regional teams
- Manage cross-functional enhancement requests across core retail platforms including inventory management, RFID, omnichannel, asset protection, and POS systems
- Develop detailed business cases and requirements for new solutions; partner with internal technology teams and outside vendors to manage project execution and support successful launches
- Oversee continuous development of operational reporting and dashboards, ensuring field and operations leaders have the actionable, store-level data they need to diagnose performance and adjust quickly
- Author and maintain operational policies, procedures, and documentation in response to process or technology changes
- Monitor the broader retail technology landscape for emerging innovations; support proof-of-concept efforts and pilots to bring relevant new solutions to market
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in a headquarter-based retail operations function with a required focus on technology enablement and process improvement
- Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, information management, or a related field
- Demonstrated track record of developing and scaling retail tools and operational solutions with measurable business outcomes
- Deep familiarity with core retail systems including inventory management platforms, RFID, and omnichannel technology
- Strong cross-functional influencing skills with the ability to align stakeholders across operations, technology, and leadership
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex operational and technical concepts into clear, compelling business narratives
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and reprioritize quickly in a fast-moving environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with retail task management or field communication platforms a plus
- Willingness to travel to stores and field locations up to 25% of the time; must be based in or willing to relocate to the greater Los Angeles area
Compensation Targeting a base salary of $175,000–$215,000
