Job Description

Job Purpose:

  • Responsible for management of Rehabilitation Services in Island Hospitals Physical Therapy Center and the Lopez Island Medical Center as well as ensuring for the delivery of high quality patient care within budgeted parameters.

Duties

  • Develops and maintains annual operating budgets within prescribed parameters.
  • Accountable for budgetary compliance.
  • Anticipates budgetary impact of service changes and develops contingency plans.
  • Evaluates statistical data to determine trends, potential for improvement and develops same.
  • Recommends cost-saving methods and service augmentation to improve economy of the department operations.
  • Assures delivery of quality patient care based on current standards for rehabilitation services. Ensures continuity of care, conflict resolution.
  • Maintains appropriate level of FTEs to provide the high quality of patient care and to staff the established programs. Assist with Outpatient coverage needs.
  • Responsible for department policies and procedures and the implementation of same.
  • Ensures that the department meets standards set forth by the Hospital’s governing body, State of Washington and DNV.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient’s requirements relative to his//her age-specific needs.
  • Possess knowledge of CQI principles and supports the Hospital’s philosophy of performance improvement. Participates in Quality Action Teams using the F.A.D.E. process.
  • Participation in community and external professional activities to maintain awareness of the community needs and to stay abreast of the changing health care environment. Continuation of education, awareness and marketing.
  • Performs collaborative and periodic reviews.
  • Knowledge of hiring and termination process.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement and billing (maximize).
  • Participates in rehab- nursing care improvement (i.e. fall prevention)
  • Process committee implementation.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients, visitors, MD’s and nursing staff.
  • Must meet regular attendance standard and must stay at or below average sick leave utilization levels.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy program.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an acute care and outpatient setting.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Must maintain active Physical Therapist license issued by the WA Department of Health
  • Current Basic Life Support certification

Work Environment

  • The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, should have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports are required; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
