The Opportunity

As Director, Regional Head of Energy and Materials, UK and Europe within Global Trade Solutions (GTS) you’ll set the regional sector strategy for a priority industry group across one of HSBC’s key markets. You’ll combine deep structuring capability with market insight to deliver sustainable revenue and asset growth, profitability and enhanced competitive advantage for the Energy and Materials portfolio. Working closely with regional GTS teams and Energy and Materials colleagues across the Americas, Asia and the Middle East you’ll help connect the network around complex client needs and replicate solutions across markets. The role spans traditional and structured trade solutions including receivables and payables financing, structured trade loans and SBLCs and Guarantees. Success means deeper strategic client relationships, stronger sector penetration and consistently strong risk outcomes across multi-geography, multi-product transactions. You’ll report to the Head of GTS Sales UK with a functional reporting line to the Global Head of Energy and Materials, GTS.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and execute the UK and Europe trade finance growth strategy for the Energy and Materials sector in line with GTS strategy
  • Structure large and complex trade finance transactions across receivables, payables, structured trade loans and SBLCs and Guarantees
  • Assess client and deal risk dynamics and embed appropriate risk mitigants to deliver sustainable and risk acceptable structures
  • Shape and deliver sector-specific solutions aligned to evolving working capital needs and trade flows across commodity supply chains
  • Build and deepen senior client relationships across key Energy and Materials clients including C-suite, Treasurers and procurement decision makers
  • Partner with portfolio management and distribution teams to set distribution strategy, support sell-down activity and improve balance sheet velocity
  • Represent HSBC at industry events, trade forums and client roundtables to strengthen market presence and sector insight
  • Develop and manage a specialised Energy and Materials sales team with clear performance measures, development plans and succession focus

What we're looking for

  • Bring extensive knowledge of Global Trade Solutions products, the regulatory environment and market dynamics
  • Demonstrate substantial experience structuring complex payables, receivables and trade loan facilities using risk mitigation instruments
  • Show proven capability in trade asset distribution including large-scale origination and sell-down
  • Apply strong understanding of Energy and Materials sector dynamics including commodity trends, supply chains and working capital needs
  • Offer established corporate or wholesale banking experience including senior sales responsibility with Energy and Materials clients
  • Build and develop high-performing teams with clear performance management and colleague development practices
  • Operate effectively in a matrixed environment including partnering across regions and international reporting lines
  • Communicate clearly with experience engaging executives at all levels and shaping strategic stakeholder alignment
  • Apply credit assessment capability for complex structured facilities with an international dimension
  • Travel as needed to support client activity and sector priorities across the UK and Europe
