Responsibilities

  • Lead India-based real estate accounting resources, including staffing, workload balancing, capacity planning, training, development, retention, succession planning, and team performance. Build an accountable, collaborative team culture that encourages knowledge sharing, professional development, and ownership.
  • Partner with the U.S. Real Estate Director and engagement leaders on solution design, scoping, transition planning, staffing, service levels, quality, priorities, and escalations.
  • Partner with U.S. engagement leaders to monitor India delivery against engagement staffing plans, budgets, and delivery assumptions; identify capacity or delivery issues that could affect engagement economics and escalate them proactively.
  • Oversee India delivery for complex real estate owners, operators, developers, property managers, joint ventures, partnerships, SPVs, and related operating entities across single-asset and multi-entity portfolios.
  • Oversee India team members responsible for general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash activity, bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, allocations, intercompany activity, account analysis, recurring transactions, and close. Become more directly involved for enterprise clients, complex matters, escalations, and periods when additional delivery or review coverage is needed.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of property- and entity-level financial statements, balance-sheet reconciliations, income-statement results, supporting schedules, management reporting, lender reporting support, and audit support. Provide direct review or additional coverage for enterprise clients, complex reporting matters, and critical deadlines as needed.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of project cost tracking, development budgets, commitments, progress billings, retainage, subcontractor payments, construction in progress, project closeouts, capitalization, funding activity, and budget-to-actual analysis. Provide direct review or additional coverage for enterprise clients, complex projects, escalations, and critical deadlines as needed.
  • Provide leadership and review over India team members supporting tenant or resident activity, rent and debt administration, property-management fees, common-area-maintenance reconciliations, mortgage activity, lease accounting support, and property-specific close entries. Assist more directly when enterprise-client complexity, team capacity, transition activity, or other coverage needs require it.
  • Lead the India delivery component of onboarding, including process discovery, knowledge transfer, account mapping, opening-balance tie-outs, data conversion support, work allocation, readiness tracking, parallel processing, and stabilization.
  • Establish review standards, operating procedures, reconciliations, documentation, escalation paths, and internal controls that improve accuracy and reduce delivery risk.
  • Standardize repeatable workflows, strengthen close discipline, improve capacity visibility, and use automation and AI responsibly to reduce manual effort and errors.
  • Establish and monitor practical delivery metrics across the India real estate team related to capacity, timeliness, quality, review, backlog, and other key operational indicators.
  • Lead the India team through growth, new-client onboarding, process changes, technology adoption, and evolving delivery models while maintaining service quality and clear accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Chartered Accountant or comparable professional credential preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility in outsourced accounting, shared services, real estate accounting, or a comparable delivery environment.
  • Deep property- and entity-accounting expertise, including monthly close, financial statement review, balance-sheet reconciliations, cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, intercompany activity, and management reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple real estate asset types and ownership structures, such as commercial, multifamily or residential, mixed-use, industrial, development, and construction portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of partnership, joint-venture, SPV, and multi-entity accounting as it relates to real estate ownership and operations, without requiring fund-administration expertise.
  • Experience leading client transitions, knowledge transfer, process documentation, work allocation, readiness assessment, stabilization, and issue resolution across distributed teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working in accounting systems commonly used for real estate portfolios. Experience with Yardi is strongly preferred; experience with MRI, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or comparable real estate and enterprise accounting platforms is also beneficial.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP as applied to real estate operations, development, construction, fixed assets, leases, consolidations, and related reporting.
  • Clear executive communication, practical judgment, and the ability to translate complex accounting or delivery issues into decisions, owners, and next steps.
  • Ability to work effectively across India and U.S. teams, including overlapping hours when required by client transitions, close cycles, or critical delivery needs.
