The Director of Product Strategy – Flexible Generation is responsible for defining the scope, tech stack, regulatory construct and regional prioritization to position Flexible Generation product offerings to customers, including large commercial off-takers and utilities/munis/coops. The role will use a deep understanding of customer technical needs and purchase drivers to create standardized product archetypes that form the basis of the Flex Gen go-to-market approach, to be refined in advanced customer discussions in collaboration with development, commercial and regulatory teams within RWE.

This role will work closely with the Director and VP Business Development to gather insights from customer conversations on purchase drivers, technical needs, green power needs, and other critical purchase drivers, to create these standardized offerings. The role also serves as a critical interface with Regulatory Affairs, Policy, Development and Commercial to ensure the feasibility of delivering projects and contracts consistent with these project archetypes, aligning the Flex Gen execution approach to customer needs.

This role supports RWE’s commitment to Generating Impact through Electrifying Ingenuity, ensuring that the assets and product offerings RWE develops, builds, and operates are aligned with customer demand.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Own Project Archetypes
    • Define archetypes of projects that form the RWE Flex Gen ‘product offer’ to the market, including standardized options for:
      • Scope and load ramp timing
      • Generation stack
      • Carbon free energy
      • Reliability standards
      • Regulatory construct (including both BTM and FTM)
      • Flexible contracting and commercial options
    • Iterate on project archetypes over time, balancing insight into customer purchase drivers with practicality of RWE project development and execution
    • Match project archetypes and associated value drivers with target customer segments and create associated customer ready product narratives and marketing materials
  • Flex Gen product offer
    • Translate RWE execution inputs (generation type, equipment, etc.) into customer outcomes / value drivers (carbon free energy, delivery timeline, scale potential, etc.)
    • Collaborate with Director Business Development to create sales and marketing collateral, brining specific archetypes / product offers to specific customers
  • Project Prioritization
    • Collaborate with VP Development to overlay project archetypes, onto specific project opportunities, enabling Flex Gen to prioritize development investments and steer project designs toward known customer needs
    • Collaborate with Director Business Development to match specific customer feedback to the overall Flex Gen product offer to develop follow up proposals and match specific projects to customers
    • Assess project pipeline against project archetypes to identify gaps in Flex Gen overall go-to-market offer and solve for these gaps through acceleration of specific projects, M&A opportunities or other solutions identified in collaboration with broader Flex Gen team
  • Regulatory Strategy
    • Define the overarching regulatory approach for each project archetype and the specific approach for each individual project in the Flex Gen pipeline
      • Research local regulations and legislations applicable to each project
      • Engage with regulators, utilities and other stakeholders to prove out and refine regulatory approaches
      • Support commercial with regulatory insight to information commercial constructs and negotiations
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the U.S. regulatory environment, applicable legislation affecting BTM projects and large scale power projects and use this insight to iterate and update on project archetypes and go-to-market approach
    • Serve as the primary interface for the Flex Gen Business Development team with RWE Regulatory Affairs and Policy.
  • Business Development Support
    • Create marketing materials on project archetypes and associated customer value drivers to support customer outreach and ongoing engagement
    • Participate in customer conversations on topics related to project archetype definitions and value drivers, regulatory approaches, etc.
    • Leverage relationships with utilities and other stakeholders through developing regulatory approaches to create project opportunities for the Flex Gen business
  • What Success Looks Like
    • Clearly defined product offer for the RWE Flexible Generation business that aligns to customer purchase drivers
    • Alignment among business development, commercial, development and project execution teams on the suitability of project archetypes and approach to refinement with customer input
    • Clearly defined regulatory approach to the products offered by RWE Flexible Generation and the specific projects in development and commercial negotiations

Job Requirements and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum15 years energy sector experience with a focus on policy and regulatory affairs
  • Fluency in power assets, generation technologies, and associated outcomes for offtakers, ideally developed in the context of resource planning or developing bespoke customer solutions
  • Deep knowledge of the regulatory and policy trends impacting the U.S. power sector
  • Experience working at the intersection of power projects and hyperscaler driven power demand, at a utility, energy developer, hyperscaler or other data center developer/operator
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills in highly ambiguous environments
  • Experience developing high quality communications and marketing materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Team leader and mentor able to identify individual strengths, foster professional growth, and provide actionable, constructive feedback

  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWEA offices and field location
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $190,000 - $314,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
