The Procurement Director will focus on value creation that supports the business, adoption of new agentic technology, and procurement leadership that enables broader business change. You will help ensure procurement remains a trusted strategic partner to the organization, with strong category strategies, resilient supplier relationships and robust commercial outcomes.

What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing regional category management team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, commercial excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Work with the Head of Procurement to support the development and execution of the regional procurement strategy, ensuring category priorities are aligned to GXO's business objectives, customer commitments and transformation agenda.
  • Develop and execute category strategies that deliver sustainable value creation through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, demand optimization, specification management and commercial innovation.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to improve EBITDA, productivity, working capital, service performance and risk management across assigned categories.
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships that create innovation, operational improvement, supply resilience and long-term commercial advantage.
  • Use market intelligence, benchmarking, spend analytics and emerging technologies to identify opportunities, challenge conventional approaches and shape category strategies.
  • Champion the adoption of digital procurement tools, advanced analytics and agentic AI capabilities within category management activity to improve decision quality, productivity and speed of execution.
  • Lead complex sourcing initiatives and commercial negotiations that balance cost, quality, service, innovation, risk and sustainability objectives.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, IT, Finance, Legal and Business Development to ensure procurement is fully, integrated into strategic projects, customer solutions and wider business change programs.
  • Support the evaluation and deployment of innovative technologies, products and services that enable GXO operational excellence and future growth.
  • Develop category roadmaps that anticipate market trends, supplier developments and business requirements, ensuring, procurement remains proactive rather than reactive.
  • Lead supplier risk management activity across key categories, improving business continuity, supply resilience and proactive mitigation of commercial and operational risk.
  • Establish performance reporting that tracks category delivery across savings, EBITDA contribution, productivity, innovation, supplier performance, sustainability, cash flow and risk outcomes.
  • Champion ESG and responsible sourcing initiatives by embedding sustainability, ethical sourcing and governance considerations into category strategies and supplier management.
  • Support the growth of procurement talent through mentoring, coaching and capability-building in category management, commercial acumen and technology adoption.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across the procurement function.

What you'll need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience leading strategic sourcing and category management programs within a complex organization.
  • Proven success delivering measurable business value through procurement, supplier management and commercial negotiation.
  • Proven leadership in managing teams and leading through periods of change.
  • Proven experience of excellent stakeholder management with the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of category management, supplier relationship management, strategic sourcing and contract negotiation.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience delivering EBITDA improvement, total cost optimization, productivity benefits and working capital improvement.
  • Strong capability in using data, spend analytics, market intelligence and performance reporting to support strategic procurement decisions.
  • Experience using procurement technology, supplier management platforms, ERP systems and digital procurement solutions to improve business outcomes.
  • Interest and experience in leveraging automation, artificial intelligence and agentic technology to improve procurement effectiveness and category execution.
  • Strong understanding of supplier risk management, resilience planning and supply market dynamics.
  • Proven ability to lead change, resolve complex challenges and support broader business transformation initiatives.
  • ESG awareness and an understanding of how sustainability and responsible sourcing apply to category strategies and supplier engagement.
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable and results-driven, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

It'd be great if you also had:

  • Experience leading global or regional category teams within logistics, transportation, warehousing, automation, technology or indirect procurement categories.
  • Experience implementing AI-enabled procurement solutions, digital procurement platforms or advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Strong supplier innovation and strategic partnership management experience.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on developing a top-tier procurement team.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong personal qualities including honesty, integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Strategic thinker, balancing short-term objectives with long-term goals.
  • Highly adaptable and results-driven, thriving in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Genuine passion for sustainability, innovation and driving initiatives that integrate with procurement strategies.
