Job Purpose
The Director, Power BI is responsible for assisting the revenue cycle management team in monitoring revenue and accounts receivable data through Power BI reporting. The Director, Power BI will work with key stakeholders to transform raw data into cohesive, valuable reports capturing meaningful business insights. The Director, Power BI serves as both a people leader and technical subject matter expert, ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing reporting and analytics solutions across the enterprise.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead the overall Power BI strategy, governance framework, platform roadmap, and enterprise standards for workspaces, semantic models, reports, dashboards, dataflows, and deployment processes
• Partner with IT, Infrastructure, Security, Data Engineering, and Database Administration teams to design, implement, maintain, and optimize the Power BI environment
• Oversee the administration and optimization of the Microsoft Power BI Service, including tenant-level configurations, governance controls, scalability, availability, and security
• Define and manage Power BI licensing strategies, including Pro, Premium Per User (PPU), Premium Capacity, and Microsoft Fabric, while monitoring utilization, capacity, and cost optimization opportunities
• Establish data architecture and modeling standards that support scalable, accurate, high-performing, and maintainable reporting and analytics
• Partner with revenue cycle project leaders and business stakeholders to understand business processes and translate requirements into effective reporting and analytics solutions
• Design and develop complex Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, DAX calculations, and measures to support financial performance and key business functions
• Collaborate with data teams and analysts to acquire, clean, transform, and validate data for reporting and analytical purposes
• Develop and maintain recurring daily, weekly, and monthly reports and dashboards, as well as ad-hoc analyses, to support business initiatives and operational decision-making
• Maintain a thorough understanding of client-specific data, including payer mix, insurance and financial classes, patient access systems, data timing, and other client-specific requirements
• Ensure Power BI solutions adhere to data security, compliance, governance, and organizational best practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve Power BI, reporting, data, and performance issues to ensure reliable and timely delivery of analytics
• Compile accurate, comprehensive client-facing reports and communicate findings and solutions effectively to internal and external stakeholders
• Provide Power BI training, guidance, and ongoing support to end users and business stakeholders
• Stay current with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, data analytics, and visualization capabilities and identify opportunities to enhance the organization’s reporting and analytics environment
• Other duties as assigned
• Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
• Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
• Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, or relevant fields required
• 5-7 years of experience or equivalent in a revenue cycle analytics position in the healthcare industry
• 2+ years’ experience managing and mentoring a team of direct reports
• Proficiency in Power BI development, including report and dashboard creation; Power BI certifications are a plus
• Strong understanding of data modeling and data visualization concepts
• Experience with SQL for data manipulation and extraction
• Knowledge of Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) for creating calculations
• Familiarity with data warehouse concepts
• Experience collaborating with customer support/client issue resolution management
• A thorough understanding of best practices for efficiently working with large data sets
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
