This position is responsible for leading, developing, and coordinating the operation of Pharmacy Services. The Director of Pharmacy Services shall develop services that provide and enhance quality patient care while promoting fiscal responsibility in the utilization of resources. Within the scope of budget responsibilities, the Director of Pharmacy Services shall direct the activities that provide for the purchasing, receiving, storage, delivery and distribution of medications from the pharmacy. The incumbent will be responsible for the regulatory compliance of the department. The Director of Pharmacy Services shall plan, direct, monitor, and evaluate the provision of distributive and clinical pharmacy services to all patient care areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES(including but not limited to):
Responsible for all routine operations of the Department of Pharmacy ServicesDevelops programs,goalsandobjectivesconsistent with those of theorganizationsoverall strategic plan.
Develops operational and capital budgets consistent with Mount Auburn Hospital and BILHSystem, andmanages operating expenses and key indicators within the budgetDevelops, implements, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and integrates pharmacy services that contribute to the overall success and financial viability of pharmacy servicesUses creativity in the delivery of services and products in a highly competitive market.
Providesappropriate pharmacyrepresentation on hospital and medical staff committeesServes as a professional resource for Physicians, Clinical Staff and AdministrationCollaborates with Medical Staff and Clinical Staffregardingpharmacy programs and services.
Defines and resolves issues with the medication distribution system and continually evaluates performance relative to need for improvement of processes toassurethe safe andappropriate deliveryof medications to all patient care areasPlans,supportsand leads Quality Improvement efforts for relevant pharmacy services.
Manages human resources by recruiting, selecting,hiringand orienting qualified candidatesEvaluates staff performance inan accurate, consistent, objective, andtimelymannerDevelops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional developmentCreates a cohesive pharmacy team committed to providing distributive, clinical, and service quality to all customers.
Develops andmonitorsdepartmental policies and proceduresEnsurescompliance with state and federal regulatory agency standards.
Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/documentsmedication errors and attends safety in-services, when appropriate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires current pharmacy licensure in the State of Massachusetts, a degree in Pharmacy (advanced degree preferred) from an accredited College of Pharmacy
A minimum of one-year pharmacy management experience
Mustpossessgood organizational and computer skills.
Mustpossessgood interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff,Physiciansand other contacts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position provides direct and indirect supervision to Pharmacy Manager/Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Residents, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Interns, Pharmacy Supply Coordinator, Pharmacy Technicians and Secretary/Clerk.
SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY
This position reports directly to the BILH SVP & Chief Pharmacy Officer and designatedadministrativeposition within the facilityThe Department of Pharmacy Servicesmaintainsnecessary inventory to meet the medication needs of the diverse patient population served by the hospitalThe departmentparticipatesin all aspects of medication use including (1)selection,procurementand storage, (2) ordering or prescribing, (3) dispensing, (4) administering, and (5) monitoring of all medications utilizedThe Director of Pharmacy Services is accountable for an effective departmental operation within budgetary constraints through the monitoring,projectingand controlling expenses, and through the promotion of rational, cost-effectiveutilizationof medication therapy.
Internal contacts include Administrators, Physicians, Nursing Directors, Department Directors and other health care team members for the purpose of integrating services, improving patient care, ensuring effective communicationsystemsandfacilitatingdecision making in clinical practice issues.
External contacts include patient and families regarding patient care issues; physicians regarding patient care and program development; JCAHO, MA State Board of Pharmacy, MA DPH, HRSA, other state and federal agencies regarding compliance with rules and regulations; educational institutions, local, state and national professional pharmacy organizations for the purpose of exchanging professional and program information; peers in other facilities to exchange and share information as it relates to the provision of pharmacy services; pharmaceutical representatives regarding contracts and medical products.

Pay Range:
$195,000.00 USD - $213,990.40 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
