Director of Information Technology

Location: Northwest Houston, TX 77070

Employment Type: Full-Time | Onsite

Reports To: CEO

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; approximately 40–50 hours per week

Travel: At least two weeks per month, including short-notice travel for immediate projects

At SynergenX / Low T Center, our teams rely on dependable technology to support their work every day. We’re looking for a Director of Information Technology who can lead our IT team, strengthen our infrastructure, and keep our systems secure, stable, and ready to support the company’s growth.

This hands-on leadership role oversees IT operations, network security, help desk services, systems, infrastructure, and software development priorities. You’ll set the direction, manage the work, and stay close enough to the technology to guide complex projects and resolve critical issues.

What You’ll Do

Set the Direction

• Develop the IT strategy and roadmap in support of company goals.
• Set priorities, goals, and timelines for the IT department, including operations and software development.
• Manage the IT Annual Operating Plan and lead the department’s Management Operating System.
• Work with company leaders to understand business needs, explain technology options, and recommend solutions.

Lead IT Operations and Projects

• Oversee network security, help desk services, systems, networking, hardware, software, storage, and monitoring tools.
• Provide technical leadership for the design, architecture, administration, and improvement of IT infrastructure.
• Lead projects through research, justification, planning, implementation, support, maintenance, and retirement.
• Track project progress, quality, risks, and issues; communicate updates and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain IT policies, operational standards, system images, and hardware standards.

Strengthen Security and Reliability

• Identify vulnerabilities, infrastructure gaps, and opportunities to improve performance and scalability.
• Lead cybersecurity and compliance initiatives and keep the organization informed of emerging risks.
• Oversee disaster recovery planning, business continuity plans, and testing exercises.
• Guide maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and improvements across the company’s technology environment.

Lead the Team and Manage Resources

• Hire, train, coach, mentor, and manage IT team members.
• Set clear expectations, delegate effectively, and hold the team accountable for responsive service and follow-through.
• Manage infrastructure budgets, forecasts, software licensing, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
• Evaluate and source new hardware and software that meet business needs and provide value.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience leading IT teams, infrastructure, operations, and complex technology projects.
• Strong knowledge of networking technologies, security protocols, systems administration, and technical support.
• Experience with Fortinet products beyond FortiGate, such as Secure SD-WAN, FortiSASE, FortiGuard IPS, FortiProxy, or FortiMail.
• Experience managing budgets, vendors, software licensing, competing priorities, and project deadlines.
• Strong communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a customer service mindset.
• The ability to work with executives, collaborate across departments, and remain technically engaged when issues need your expertise.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience, is preferred.

Work Location and Travel

This position works onsite in Northwest Houston, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role is expected to require approximately 40–50 hours per week. Candidates must have reliable transportation and be available to travel at least two weeks per month, including on short notice for immediate projects. Hotel and flight accommodations and a daily per diem are provided for applicable travel.
