Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Transportation to oversee our transportation operations around the clock. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who understands the demands of a 24/7 operation and is committed to ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable transportation services. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Direct all daily transportation activities including dispatch, routing, scheduling, and delivery execution.
  2. Ensure on-time delivery performance meets or exceeds company service objectives.
  3. Develop and implement transportation strategies that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support company growth.
  4. Monitor fleet utilization, route profitability, and transportation KPIs.
  5. Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to fleet productivity and service levels.
  6. Oversees leadership team in effective management of day-to-day delivery activities, including but not limited to:

· Adherence to standard operating procedures

· Adherence to planned routes

· Providing safe and efficient customer service.

  1. Ensures proper communication between all departments and implement processes and policies where necessary to improve.
  2. Analyzes effectiveness of route software programs.
  3. Locates and contracts with reputable independent drivers.
  4. Manage vehicle replacement strategies, equipment specifications, and capital expenditure planning.
  5. Monitors vehicle safety including incident reporting.
  6. Develops and implements equipment plans.
  7. Recruit, train, develop, and retain qualified CDL drivers and transportation supervisors.
  8. Establish performance expectations and accountability standards.
  9. Ensures completion of annual performance reviews for all department staff.
  10. Foster a positive safety culture focused on compliance and accident prevention.
  11. Provides coaching on career development opportunities for team.
  12. Oversees employee relations issues and involve HR as necessary.
  13. Ensure full compliance with: DOT regulations, FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD) requirements, Driver Qualification Files, CDL and medical certification requirements, OSHA standards, Food Safety regulations
  14. Develops and maintains budgets.
  15. Reviews, oversees and implements policies and procedures that increase performance and ROI.
  16. Identify opportunities for cost reductions and operational efficiencies.
  17. Monitors performance of vendors including proper billing and service levels.
  18. Reviews and approves route sheets for accuracy to enable timely payroll.
  19. Negotiates and executes contracts as necessary.
  20. Ensures completion of annual performance reviews for all department staff.
  21. On call at all times.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education Requirements: College degree preferred or equivalent logistics management work experience, 8 years’ management experience.

Training, Skills, Licenses: Excellent communication and organization skills. Proficient in Samsara routing software or equivalent, Proficient in MS Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel. Proficient in MS Office Suite. Perform basic accounting functions including budgeting. Must possess a positive attitude and willingness to lead change. Critical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail, and organizational skills are a must. Ability to work under high pressure, time sensitive environment 24/7/365. Logistics experience in the trucking industry. Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus. Cash handling experience.

Working Conditions: This position is located in an office environment with moderate to low noise levels and is typically sedentary. Daily use of a computer and phone system is necessary as well as interaction with staff, customers and vendors.
