Job Description

The Director of Transfer Center provides strategic and operational leadership for Texas Children’s Transfer Center, ensuring seamless patient placement. This leader oversees 24/7 Transfer Center operations and is responsible for developing high-performing teams, and driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight and day-to-day leadership for all Transfer Center operations across a 24/7 environment.
  • Ensure timely, appropriate, and efficient patient placement throughout the Texas Children’s system.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics, service levels, and operational standards to drive exceptional results.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance patient access, operational efficiency, and service quality.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Transfer Center managers and staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing team through coaching, professional development, succession planning, and engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive onboarding, training, and competency programs.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Partner closely with physicians, nursing leaders, hospital operations, and referring facilities to ensure effective coordination of patient transfers.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborator to clinical and operational leaders across the organization.
  • Promote strong communication and alignment between the Transfer Center and key stakeholders throughout the health system.

Financial & Business Management

  • Demonstrate sound fiscal stewardship through effective management of personnel, equipment, operational resources, and budgets.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and leverage data analytics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets for the department.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead quality improvement efforts focused on patient safety, service excellence, and operational effectiveness.
  • Utilize performance data and customer feedback to identify trends and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership or quality management experience (Required)
  • Experience leading healthcare operations, patient flow, access, transfer center, command center, EMS, dispatch, transport, or related healthcare service operations strongly (Preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related healthcare field (Required)
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related healthcare field (Required)
