Champion Home Builders, Inc. wants YOU! We are seeking to hire a Director of Total Rewards to join our team in our Corporate Office in Troy, MI.

For decades, Champion has served as a leader in the manufactured housing industry and one of the largest modular homebuilders in North America. Our manufactured homes, modular homes, mobile homes, park models and commercial modular buildings can be found throughout the United States and western Canada.

Responsibilities

As the Director of Total Rewards, you will provide enterprise-level leadership for the strategy, design, and execution of compensation and benefits programs supporting a multi-site workforce across the U.S. and Canada. This role requires a compensation-forward leader with strong experience supporting hourly, salaried, and field-based populations, while maintaining hands-on oversight of core benefits programs.

The Director of Total Rewards will partner with executive leadership, HR, Finance, and external vendors to deliver competitive, compliant, and cost-effective pay and benefits programs that attract, motivate, and retain top talent.

What You Will Do

  • Lead company-wide compensation strategy for hourly, salaried, supervisory, and leadership roles across manufacturing plants, construction sites, and corporate functions.
  • Design and maintain job architecture, job leveling, and market pricing frameworks aligned to skilled trades, production, engineering, and field operations.
  • Oversee annual wage, merit, and incentive cycles, including site-based increases and operational bonus programs.
  • Conduct market benchmarking, internal equity, and pay transparency analyses to support competitive and compliant pay practices.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, and HR leaders to align compensation decisions with labor budgets, workforce planning, and business performance.
  • Provide guidance on compensation matters related to union environments, prevailing wage considerations, and regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • Oversee benefits programs for a large, distributed workforce, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, wellness, disability, and leave programs.
  • Manage vendor relationships, renewals, and cost-containment strategies while balancing affordability and employee access.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, state-specific requirements).
  • Partner with HR and site leadership to improve benefits communication and understanding among field and plant-based employees.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on total rewards philosophy, workforce competitiveness, and labor market trends.
  • Lead and develop a Total Rewards team, fostering strong analytical capability and operational partnership.
  • Support change management and communication efforts during compensation cycles, benefit changes, and organizational growth.
  • Monitor external trends in construction and manufacturing labor markets, skilled trades compensation, and regulatory changes.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of Total Rewards experience, with deep compensation expertise in construction, manufacturing, or similar operational environments.
  • Expertise in compensation design, incentive structures, benefits compliance, payroll, and HR systems
  • Strong experience supporting hourly, multi-site, and field-based workforces.
  • Experience with benefits administration in complex, compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and influencing at a strategic level.
  • Professional certifications such as CCP, CBP, or CEBS preferred.
