The School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 28, 2017 with potential for subsequent annual reappointments. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The position may commence as early as June 1, 2017 in a paid part-time capacity.
Applicants should hold a PhD., or EdD in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, or a related area of study. Academic experience in teacher education, with a focus on teacher effectiveness and/or education reform is preferred. Highly qualified applicants with all but dissertation in a field related to teacher education will be considered.
The Program Director administers and teaches in both the ground and online MAT programs. Key administrative responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of accreditation tasks, hiring and managing adjunct faculty, managing the student admissions process, providing leadership on marketing and recruitment plans, developing and maintaining relationships with external partners, evaluating program performance, and advising and mentoring program students, including on career pathways.
