Summary

This position supports the Chief Information Officer or their designee in supervisory and technical management of the Saban Center, a multi-tenant and multi-disciplinary facility supporting the arts, stem and education. This includes management of the team responsible for all technical aspects of the Saban Center including audio visual, classroom technology, computer, software, exhibits, theatre and event space support.

Collaborates with all Saban Center stakeholders and partner agencies on technology needs.

Coordinates with vendors on support and service contracts for all facility technology resources.

Oversees exhibit technology and ensures service level agreements are met for exhibit up-time and operation.

Coordinates staffing resources with City of Tuscaloosa Staff and stakeholders to ensure coverage for daily and special event activities.

Supports state of Alabama regional STEM hub teaching and administrative staff with instructional technology.

Manages external contractors and support providers involved in exhibit development, technology implementation, and ongoing maintenance.

Ensures daily setup for technology needs in shared spaces in coordination with stakeholders and City of Tuscaloosa staff.

Leads executive-level initiatives and projects, fostering strategic partnerships to enhance the Saban Center’s technology services and capabilities.

Creates documentation and standard operating procedures pertaining to Saban Center technology use.

Supervises assigned personnel, providing direction, performance evaluation, training, development, coaching, and disciplinary recommendations as needed.

Works within the City of Tuscaloosa Information Technology department to ensure technology needs of the Saban Center align with departmental strategies and focus.

Manages inventory of technology components and ensures they are kept in good working order.

Directs and coordinates project teams to ensure projects and operations adhere to schedules, budgets, and policy objectives.

Develops and reviews project proposals to determine feasibility, timeframes, funding requirements, staffing requirements and internal or external resources required to deliver stated project goals.

Plans and coordinates system updates, upgrades, and migrations with all pertinent city departments, tenants, external stakeholders, and vendors.

Assembles and coordinates project staff, including internal resources, vendors and consultants.

Provides direction and support to internal and external project resources.

Acts as a facilitator between staff, stakeholders, vendors and project team members to identify and resolve problems; ensures team communication is maintained.

Assigns duties and responsibilities to project teams, stakeholders and outside resources.

Manages multiple, complex projects simultaneously; develops organizational structures needed to accomplish the same within deadlines.

Applies strong knowledge of information technology, educational technology, and related technical methodologies to support diverse operational needs.

Demonstrates proficiency with computer hardware and software, resource organization, and the establishment of project priorities and schedules.

Communicates effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex concepts and ensuring shared understanding.

Analyzes problems, interprets operational needs, and develops creative, integrated solutions.

Identifies and resolves conflicts that could impact project or operational outcomes.

Maintains meticulous attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.

Builds and sustains a cooperative and productive work environment.

Substitutes for subordinates when necessary.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field; Master's degree preferred; five years of progressively responsible experience in the information technology, educational technology, technical theatre or live production fields; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Supervisory experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment, machinery and tools which may include a personal computer, terminal, terminal server, printer, tape/disk drives, uninterruptable power source, optical disk reader, scanner, modem, copy machine, facsimile machine, calculator, telephone, data scope, volt ohmmeter, crimper, wire cutter, etc. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.

DATA COMPREHENSION: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things which may include forms, reports, logs, catalogs, flow charts, technical manuals, operational manuals, policy manuals, procedural manuals, and reference materials.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to speak with and/or signal people to convey or exchange technical information, including giving/receiving assignments and/or directions to/from co-workers, assistants, managers, or supervisors as well as communicating with elected officials and the general public.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires ability to read a variety of technical documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to write job related documentation and reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice such as in public speaking situations.

INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand complex computer programming/operation principles and techniques, to understand departmental policies and procedures, to make independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.

VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, such as in a public speaking situation, to explain procedures, and to follow verbal and written instructions.

NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide, calculate decimals and percentages, determine time and weight, perform college level algebra, perform high school level trigonometry, perform statistical calculations, and perform Boolean algebra.

FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to visually inspect items for proper length, width, and shape using job related equipment.

MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using job related equipment.

MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, computer equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting motion or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

COLOR DIFFERENTIATION: May require the ability to discern color.

INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be able to adapt to and perform under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive nature of sounds by ear.
