Job Category: Engineering, Price Industries is seeking an experienced mechanical consulting engineer to help shape how we think about HVAC systems, products, markets, and the future of mechanical design.

The Director of Systems Engineering will serve as Price’s senior internal consultant on HVAC system design, bringing the perspective of a practicing consulting engineer across our business units. This person will understand how buildings are designed from system selection and load distribution through airside and hydronic design, controls, specifications, construction documents, and commissioning. That experience will help influence Price’s continued growth as a market leader.

The mandate is broad: own Price’s system-level engineering strategy across business units, lead national engineering firm and industry engagement, and translate real-world design knowledge into vertical-market engineering strategies, product opportunities, engineering education, and the next generation of design tools and AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Ultimately, this role will help Price evolve from a trusted design partner into a recognized authority in HVAC system design and application.

Lead Our Building Systems Engineering Strategy

  • Apply deep knowledge of mechanical system design practices across key commercial and institutional vertical markets, including healthcare, office, education, life sciences and other strategic markets.
  • Own and maintain system-level engineering strategies for how Price products and technologies from multiple business units fit together within complete HVAC systems.
  • Identify and prioritize gaps in the Price portfolio where new products, technologies, partnerships, or acquisitions could make our system offering more complete.
  • Translate the consulting engineer’s perspective into system-level recommendations for product strategy and new product development across Price business units.
  • Evaluate emerging HVAC system architectures, technologies, codes, standards, and design trends and translate them into actionable recommendations for Price.

Influence the Future of HVAC Design Tools

  • Define engineering requirements and serve as a subject matter expert for the development of engineering software, selection tools, and AI-enabled design workflows.
  • Document how mechanical engineers develop projects from concept to completion, including system selection, zoning, equipment sizing, distribution design, schedules, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Translate engineering judgment, design rules, and workflows into requirements for scalable digital tools and algorithms.
  • Partner with software, product management, applications, research, and engineering teams to ensure new tools reflect and enhance real-world engineering practice.

Lead Price’s Engineering Firm and Industry Engagement

  • Lead Price’s national technical engagement with leading consulting engineering firms, in coordination with Sales and Price representatives, to deepen relationships and understand evolving design practices.
  • Represent Price Industries within relevant industry organizations and research communities, including organizations such as ASHRAE and the Center for the Built Environment.
  • Develop, maintain, and advance productive relationships with engineering leaders, researchers, and industry experts; synthesize recurring insights into recommendations for business units, research, software, and training teams.
  • Establish priorities for Price’s system-level technical contribution through applied research questions, technical guidance, presentations, white papers, and industry standards related to comfort, energy, acoustics, indoor air quality, controls, and overall building performance.

Develop the Next Generation of Engineers

  • Partner with our Training and Product teams to define technical content for consulting engineer education focused on how to design better HVAC systems.
  • Bring real-world design examples, lessons learned, and engineering judgment into Price’s external education programs.
  • Serve as a system-level subject matter expert for internal training of Application Engineers, Product Managers, Technical Sales teams, and other engineering personnel.
  • Build internal understanding of how and why consulting engineers design HVAC systems and how products from across Price fit within those systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 10+ years of mechanical consulting engineering experience focused on commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Significant experience designing HVAC systems and producing mechanical construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of the complete mechanical design process from concept and schematic design through construction administration.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in:
  • Variable air volume systems
  • Commercial air distribution systems
  • Chilled- and hot-water hydronic distribution systems, including terminal equipment selection and design
  • Ability to evaluate HVAC performance and system-selection trade-offs at the room, system, and building level, including familiarity with energy-efficiency code requirements and rating tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex engineering concepts to engineers, product teams, software developers, salespeople, and senior executives.
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule from the Atlanta area, with approximately three days per week in the office.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25% across the United States and Canada.

A Candidate Could Differentiate Themselves With

  • Engineer of Record experience, including personal responsibility for signing and sealing mechanical designs.
  • Approximately 10–15+ years of experience with a highly regarded mechanical or multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm.
  • Experience designing multiple building types or vertical markets.
  • Experience with central air-handling systems, terminal units, reheat, fan coils, DOAS, controls, energy recovery, and other common commercial HVAC architectures.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or developing technical standards, design guides, or internal engineering practices.
  • Experience presenting to clients, owners, architects, contractors, or other engineers.
  • Participation in ASHRAE, I2SL, EEBC, BOMA or other relevant industry organizations.
  • Interest in building science, applied research, engineering software, computational design, or artificial intelligence.
  • Natural curiosity about why engineers design systems the way they do—and how those workflows could be made better.

Location: Atlanta, GA | Hybrid 3 days per week in office

Travel: Approximately 25% across the United States and Canada
