Job Description

The System Director of Facilities Operations, this role will oversee and optimize UC Health’s operational activities which include Plant Operations & Maintenance, Clinical Engineering, Central Supply Services, and Service Response throughout the system, while reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This position will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, implementing efficient processes, and provide strategic leadership and direction to the Campus Operations department, aligning its goals with their overall mission. With a strong focus on operational strategy and resource management, this position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and maximize profitability.

Operational Leadership and Performance Accountability

  • Develop and execute UC Health’s facility operational strategy in alignment with the overall business objectives, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure effective Clinical Engineering support, address operational challenges, develop goals, and prioritize issues for the clinical engineering team to maintain excellent service.
  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning, optimizing the utilization of personnel, technology, and infrastructure to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, addressing their operational concerns, providing exceptional service, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and executes differentiated professional development for Plant Operations & Maintenance, Clinical Engineering, Central Supply, and Service Response staff, to build technical capacity, leadership, and management acumen.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational effectiveness and identify areas for improvement, driving continuous process optimization and operational excellence.
  • Administer and maintain all departmental services in accordance with standards and criteria established by regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission, CMS, ODH as well as local and federal agencies to ensure compliance to those external requirements.

Strategy, Integration and Execution:

  • Accountable for Plant Operations & Maintenance teams’ system wide to ensure safe facilities for patients, patient families and employees at 3 critical care campuses at 3.5 million SF total portfolio including ambulatory sites
  • Accountable for providing forward-looking vision and strategy for the services provided by the Service Response team for the organization.
  • Accountable for providing forward-looking vision and strategy for the scope of services provided by the Clinical Engineering and Central Supply Services team, recommending new technology for the organization.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, best practices, and provide recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and drive innovation.
  • Develop and maintain policies to support Plant Operations & Maintenance, Clinical Engineering, Central Supply, and Service Response.

Chief Safety Officer for UC Health

  • Act as Chair for the Environment of Care Committee, which reports findings, recommendations, and oversees development, implementation, and monitoring of safety management.

  • Participate in Hazardous Surveillance Inspections as well as the development of departmental and facility-wide safety policies and procedures.

  • Respond to product safety recalls, examine all safety issues and monitor the Safety Education Orientation and Training program for new employees on a continual basis.

  • Ensure follow-up on all reported and investigation of all incidents of property damage, occupational illness, and patient, Personnel, or visitor injury.

Financial Acumen

  • Develop and implement strategic financial direction in three-to-five-year time frames to align with Hospital strategic mission.
  • Direct department operational financial and budget activity inclusive of planning preparation to execution to obtaining funding as appropriate while managing approximately $30 million budget.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field with 6-10 years equivalent experience.

Preferred: Master's Degree
