POSITION SUMMARY:
Pony.ai's Strategy and Business Development team is responsible for developing and executing strategic partnerships and projects across target markets around the globe.
The position concentrates on new business field creation and market establishment, with a focus on the automotive and mobility industry.
The ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter who can quickly grasp a startup company’s vision, build a complete business plan from 0 to 1 (market analysis → business model design → GTM strategy → financial modeling → execution roadmap), and drive implementation in our close partnerships with cross functional teams.
The role requires working with key business stakeholders in the region, including but not limited to government bodies, automotive companies, platform companies, and industry associations.
The candidate must be resourceful, self-driven, and able to develop a well-defined time management process. They must also be a strong team player who can align priorities and balance trade-offs at a group level.
The candidate must be familiar with Japan market and Japanese companies, with Japanese speaking and written proficiency as a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Within minimum supervision, design and develop a full-cycle business plan for a Robotaxi platform — from market sizing, cost analysis, competitive analysis, and business model design through to go-to-market strategy, financial modeling, and execution roadmap.
- Serve as the field go-to person for company-level strategy execution and growth plans in the region (with a focus on Japan).
- Lead the development and execution of negotiations and contracting with existing and new partners.
- Align strategic priorities at both the project level and company level and communicate the vision and progress with key internal stakeholders across divisions.
- Liaise closely with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, business / operation partners, OEM partners, and Tier-1 suppliers.

BACKGROUND REQUIRED:
- Prior working experience in Japan or familiarity with Japanese business culture, decision-making processes, and project execution styles;
- Hands-on experience engaging with Japanese companies (such as investment banking, consultancy, tech, automotives, mobility service, or e-hailing platform companies) — strongly preferred;
- Demonstrated track record of building a complete business plan from 0 to 1 and turning it into real-world execution;
- Strong communication skills (clear and precise), both verbal and written, in English and Japanese (business-level Japanese or above required);
- Understanding or experience in tech, automotive or mobility operations is a plus.
DEMONSTRATED SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to work as part of a team, and ability to work independently but within strategic framework;
- Strong business acumen and structured thinking;
- Ability to handle multiple leads and projects at the same time with proper prioritization;
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment;
- Flexibility to travel.
