Job Description

The Director of Software Development is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership for enterprise application development with a primary focus on the Microsoft .NET ecosystem and related modern software engineering frameworks. This role leads to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of scalable, secure, and data-driven applications that integrate across multiple enterprise systems. This individual ensures technology strategy aligns with business objectives, with accountability for execution, delivery outcomes, and measurable business value. A key component of this role is enabling enterprise-wide data integration, real-time information flow, and AI-driven capabilities (predictive analytics, automation, and intelligent decision support).The Director is responsible for managing the application portfolio, including cost optimization, licensing strategy, vendor coordination, and modernization initiatives that enable speed, reliability, and innovation across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain a forward-looking application strategy centered on .NET-based architectures, API-first design, and cloud-enabled solutions (e.g., Azure or equivalent platforms).
  • Lead enterprise-wide system integration strategy, ensuring seamless data flow across ERP, CRM, operational, and third-party systems.
  • Drive architecture standards for microservices, event-driven architecture, and data pipelines supporting real-time and batch processing.
  • Champion AI and machine learning enablement, including use cases such as predictive analytics, demand forecasting, intelligent automation, and generative AI integration into business workflows.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to ensure high-quality, governed, and accessible enterprise data assets.
  • Lead and develop a team of software engineers, architects, and technical analysts focused on .NET development and integration-heavy solutions.
  • Oversee delivery of complex software initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Establish and enforce secure coding standards, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and software quality frameworks.
  • Collaborate cross-functional with business, product, infrastructure, and data teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for software development execution and technical decision-making across the portfolio.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI platforms, integration tools, and cloud-native services, to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Manage vendor relationships and third-party technology partners to optimize cost, capability, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Set and communicate a clear technology vision and roadmap, aligning engineering priorities, modernization efforts, and AI enablement initiatives with enterprise goals and long-term business strategy.
  • Apply strong business and process discipline to prioritize investments, improve delivery efficiency, and ensure technical decisions support measurable operational and financial outcomes.
  • Coach and develop leaders and individual contributors by building technical capability, strengthening succession depth, and fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience required
  • 7+ years of software development experience, with deep expertise in .NET frameworks (C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core)
  • 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership or director-level role preferred
  • Strong experience in enterprise system integration, API development, and data architecture across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrated experience delivering AI/ML-enabled solutions or integrating AI services into enterprise systems (e.g., predictive models, automation, or GenAI APIs)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), DevOps practices, and modern software delivery pipelines
  • Retail or fuels/energy industry experience is a plus
  • Strong executive presence with excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to operate in fast-paced environments and lead through change and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, translate business needs into a compelling technology vision, and lead teams through modernization, transformation, and continuous improvement
